So sad to see for those of us who grew up with the catalog icon. I used to love browsing through that thick book that came in the mail twice a year. Now they're Sears & No bucks. [msn.com]

My father was in the military so we traveled overseas a lot. I remember getting the Sears catalog in the summer so we could order school clothes to be sent in time for the fall school season. My parents did not have a lot of money, so we had to order things that were not so heavy and probably made of cheaper fabrics to help with the shipping costs.

I remember getting a package when I was in 6th grade...3 pairs of pedal pusher pants, red, white and blue and a shirt that matched all 3! I was so excited. We never got to order from the Christmas catalog but we used to dream about some of the stuff and hoped that my parents could find stuff at the PX on the base.

My first sewing machine ever came from Sears and it lasted 50 years! I still have my washer and dryer and microwave from the 1970s...too bad...a fun memory..thanks for sharing.

I hated working for them. All the higher-ups could think about was those fucking protection agreements, completely missing the fact that you can't sell your hideously expensive warranty if you can't sell the fucking product.. Furthermore, they actively discouraged product research on the part of their salespeople. Fuck you, managers, I'm not gonna sell shittily designed or overengineered crap that's just going to be returned in six months. I had the lowest return rate of anyone in that fucking store and they canned me because I didn't sell enough of those stupid warranties.

A phrase comes to mind … "patience is a virtue" and if Karma is a bitch then now you see why. Don't waste time on anger.

NOT SAD FOR SEARS. 30 Years ago I stopped patronizing Sears when they were my only creditor to not dismiss my bankruptcy. Greedy SOBs.
