Things I have never done...
I am very lucky, I have filled my 52 years with lots of interesting and exciting things. I have travelled the circumfrence of the globe and made stops in between. I have had several exciting careers and managed to do exactly what I have wanted. I have three bright, interesting and funny children. Married twice and now I am into this strange exciting life where I have things left over I want to do...
I had, until last year, never been into a betting shop and put a bet on (I lost, its not really to be recommended), I have never walked into a pub on my own, eaten out alone or gone to the pictures. I have never been to a gym, had plastic surgery, bought a car on my own and until last year, I had never paid my own utility bills or had my own bank account.
I have the doctorate to complete, but once that is done I have a real chance to do anything else I want to do.
What would you do?

I want to travel more. There are places still on the globe that I want to see. I want to learn how to play the piano and guitar. I want to really, fully, truly, and actually fall in love.

There are too many things to list, but hopefully, it will be a more manageable list before I get that tap on the shoulder telling me that even though the party will continue, its time for me to go.

As a doctorate is a priority for you, we function on very different planes. For me, working and living in Asia was a truly life-changing experience.

I did that for 3 years too.

The old proverb says 'too soon old too late wise.' that definitely applies to me.
had i known 20 yrs ago how crooked/manipulated the financial system is i would have multiples of my net worth. i never invested long term b/c i thought i could make way more than a paltry 8%/yr. and i did have a yr where an investment account was up 153%. but i gave it all back +.
you are still young enough to plan ahead.
although, when i was your age i was hitting the bottle pretty hard + other stuff. never thought i'd still be alive.
as mickey mantle said: 'if i'd known i was going to live this long i'd have taken better care of myself'.
however, since my atrial flutter forced me to cut back drastically on the alcohol a few yrs ago i'm actually in pretty good shape now. just shows that we have no idea what the future holds but should still try to prepare for it.

Whats next then?

@Amisja for me? getting away to a warmer climate soon. actually 10 days from now.
only take it1 yr at a time now.
still trying to shoot my age in golf. came within 5 weeks of it a few months ago.
i don't have much hope for the future. glad i only have 2 grandkids.
but then, i'm a pessicynic. i think we're heading into an orwellian world. but i hope i'm wrong.

@callmedubious Money is not a motiver for me. I thrive on being frugal.

Get my voice retrained, and learn to play a musical instrument to a non-shameful public performance level.

Wow that is cool! Very impressed

@Amisja I'm currently trying to teach myself the bass - progress is a bit stalled at the moment due to time constraints. The voice retraining will have to wait till I have more time and money. It will take a bit of effort - I've only got about two rusty octaves, and while my pitch is ok, I can't hold harmonies for shit.
