I'm trying to get there:

What a miracle it is
to wrap my hands
around happiness
and still,
after all this time,
know how to hold it.

That's beautiful. I think happiness is temporary but it always returns. Life would be dull for me if I only knew happiness. I've learned to enjoy every feeling that life has to offer me.

Thanks for the nice comment.

it's a lovely poem and i mean no disrespect by putting a caveat on it -- only that if the poem reflects your philosophy, may i suggest that happiness, often presented as a goal, is not a good or realistic goal to have? it can be the byproduct of striving for (not even necessarily reaching) other goals. now, back to poetry! lovely, as i say!

I guess I look at happiness or contentment or mindfulness or whatever any of us might acquire as a temporary state. For me this poem is about striving for that kind of happiness I've had in relationships but it's just been too damn far in the past.
