Do you ever feel you're a magnet for people with mental disabilities? That if you join a community like this, or you're pretty much anywhere, and there's someone with a mental problem in the room, they'll pick you out of a crowd and decide to engage?

I just had another one of those experiences here.

Someone that I suspect has some mental issues, or possibly a substance abuse problem, messaged me out of the blue telling me to watch myself or I'll be blocked. No explanation as to what I need to watch, just better watch it.

So I asked why?

Why do I do that? Why do I engage further? /insertfacepalm

Anyway what I got back was an incoherent rant expressing anger at posts where they clearly didn't understand or get the humour. The person also seems to think I'm a Trump supporter, which for anyone that knows any of my posts that's gotta make you wonder right there.

Then they told me I was never going to meet anyone with my ugly eyeball pic (I guess they missed the 'here for community" part on my profile. You know, one of the first things you would think people would notice on a profile at a site like this...). They also talk about my sexual deviances? WTF? I have no idea where that comes from. I don't even belong to the group lol?

Then they blocked me. Which is the only positive thing I can take from the experience.

Anyway good riddance I guess, but it once again left me wondering why I seem to attract them?

Any ideas? Is it something I do? What should I do different?

The problem is that we are the people who irritate the heck out of each other. None of us are qualified to determine another person's mental health. All our opinions are subjective bar a few like the laws of physics. I think it's true that there are a lot of people coming on board just to let off steam. It's best to ignore them, i think, but a lot of people are getting trigger-happy with the block button.

There is a support group for people who are dealing with family or friends with mental illness, it's called NAMI. I have a brother and a nephew with schizophrenia so I took their course which was very enlightening and informative. One of the things that they covered was how people with mental illnesses seek out support persons to help them survive in the real world, in order to cope they develop a sense for those of us who are caring and empathetic to their plight and when they find us they automatically try to attach themselves to us as a survival mechanism. However, because this relationship is dependent for them they also develop a loathing for the very people that support them and help them survive; it's a bit like the Scorpion and the Frog fable.

Thank you for that response. It's got me looking into that more. I'm not exaggerating that it happens to me all the time. I used to think it was because I make eye contact with people, but have come to realize there's more to it.

@Umbral Most people express fear and revulsion when confronted with someone with a mental illness but a few of us express concern and empathy, we are like a flame that these moths go to out of instinct. I am sure there is a NAMI program where you live, the course is free and I found it very helpful in dealing with my schizophrenic brother after he had another psychotic episode and threatened to kill me and then burn down my house.

Carter Anderson???? Do you think maybe they meant Anderson Cooper???
LOL Silly wabbit.

Why don't these people ever come at me???? Do you think it's because they
know I'm going to tell them to go fuck themselves???

Btw, if I had been contacted in such a way (or am ever contacted in such a way),
I would absolutely publish the person's identity. I wouldn't protect that bullshit at all.
People need to know who they're dealing with.
Troll, scammer, whatever.

I have noticed that we are now seeing trolling such as in the past on other sites. Perhaps our message and success has gotten out to the public and here come the trolls. On this site some time now and I see people bringing up Hillary, Obama and so on as if they are the ruin of our nation. This is russians trolling. I was just told by a member that I was responding to this and need to let it go. HE IS CORRECT. Why did I buy into such garbage. One troller is a lever seven and that is not good. We all need to stick, including me, to our focus and ignore the Benghazi crowd.

I know that if a guy is interested in me he definitely has emotional problems. Apparently that is what I attract.

Wish I could help. I seem to attract those with narcissistic sociopathic tendencies who use me until they cannot control me fully. Heartbreaking!

I know what your problem is: when you affiliate with religious types, wear a sign that reads "PRAY" and not "PREY".
