Not really favorite but strongest memory.
Decades ago the school I was working in decided to to put on a haunted house. I am a bit of a audio techno - geek so I designed and with help from others that wanted to make a haunted house, converted a large room into a haunted house. It started with a the guests crawling through a confined path then under a table with wet string hanging down just before you enter a small dark circular area. In the middle of this circular area on a tiny circular table I had a plastic skull with a solenoid that allowed the head to move from the jaw. The skull was spot lighted with a dim distant red jell covered light. I borrowed (good friend was a guitarist) an array of electronic effect boxes: stereo chorus, pitch shift, re-verb, flange, parametric EQ, etc. and with some experimenting, fed varied outputs signals from series or independent outputs into eight different amplifiers feeding eight independent speakers located around the small circular area with the skull. From a different part of the room I was able to speak into a microphone and make the skull move.. It really sounded scary as the sound was all around you – moving and twisting.
This is not my favorite memory as when one parent brought his young-ling into the room when I (the skull) said “hello” the kid was TOTALLY HORRIFIED. He screamed like someone had cut his hand off. His father Just laughed. I killed all effects and told him (without the skull moving) it was ok. But he just kept screaming. I had an assistant turn on the room lights but this poor kid was was completely horrified. He was the only person that reacted that way and most people liked the haunted house (especially the corps and studio – photo flash configuration of a coffin where a mummy would attack you. . .
@Sheannutt Making the system work was fun. Talking into the mike and controlling the skull was fun but that was the only haunted house I helped with as I did not want to traumatize another kid.
@Sheannutt With the exception of the one kid, yes it was really fun. There is a local haunted house running now - I have been asked to do the same for them for many years but just can't find the time. They have grown to over a thousand guests a year . . . maybe next year I'll chip in. . . maybe not.
@Sheannutt This is the one I am now missing. . . Have used the interior of this abandoned hospital building to shoot senior photos for one of the volunteers. [kfyrtv.com]
Way back when, the ex and I went to a party. I wore a green shirt, his shirt had the letters NV on it. We were Green with envy. Yeah, it was a groaner.
It would be difficult to give an accurate description here, but it involved a large empty house, 3 cases of champagne, candles, a snapping turtle shell, a dead owl and a naked man......
