This is a picture in early February, 1973 of me holding my just under a week-old baby brother. I'm 2 years and 9 months old here.
As a family, we vacationed at Lake Michigan. This picture shows each kid's personality. From left:
Me, 7, athletic and coordinated. I loved that swimsuit.
Beth, 2, born crabby.
Lynne, 8, hates to exercise. She looked after the youngest, Beth.
Lee, 4, hyper and easily distracted.
I am far right kneeling middle row. This was taken before we embarked on a 10 day wilderness canoe trip. Was a great time.
@ProudMary It was a great experience and I recall a lot of it still. In 10 days we traveled a little over 100 miles, canoeing and portaging trails. We all received an award and patches for what they called a 100 miler, I just donated those and all my Boy Scout stuff to the local troop a few years ago. As scouts we were trained to appreciate nature and keep it clean. You could drink right from the streams in those days. We carried everything we needed and ate freeze dried food. Our guide who is in the darker shirt was a great guy and funny. He made a stew on the last day using the remainder of the food but dyed it green. He used a jock strap coated with green food coloring and we ate jock strap stew. I am still in touch with 2 people in that picture on Facebook.
Lucky you....I always wanted a sister.....just had a big brother. He was a great brother though! Will have to look for a good photo.
@ProudMary My brother lives in Norwich in the east of England....don’t get to see him too often but hope to meet up when I go over to see my son at the end of November.
I think I’m about 4 here.. so, 1974. My three older sisters were tasked with babysitting my little sister and myself. I could spend hours at the park.
Your just taller! That's it! That is amazing!
I don't have any, but I'm sure my mother might. I'll see if she does.
Unfortunately, all of my childhood photos were left at my parents' house, with whom I haven't lived for a very long time already. I remember that among them were a lot of the most stupid and silly ones, which I`d be quite ashamed to look at now=) I think everyone has that kind of compromise! Recently, btw, we were redoing some old photos of my friend, I digitized them, made level corrections and changed some background details, here in fact remove background. It turned out very well, the photos gained brightness and new life! Actually, I like reviewing old photos of other people, but not mine=)
For whatever reasons, in the depths of her dementia my mother destroyed all my childhood pictures. She left those of my siblings intact. Perhaps the same reason I was left out of her will -- while my siblings were mentioned. I'm sad that there was apparently some reason for her anger of which I am totally unaware.
@ProudMary Thanks for the acknowledgement. It is what it is. I got past the hurt a long time ago. I am left, however, with the question of why it was me. Perhaps there was no reason. She lived for several years after she was no longer someone I recognized.
