Does anyone else miss the days when you had local, competing newspapers that reported facts, the opinion pieces had their own section, and you had to wait 12 to 24 hours to be "offended"?

This is like asking if I miss the Pony Express and Wells Fargo. Things move forward. I just hate the fact that fake news like Fox can speak freely with no regret.

When you had three networks and PBS, everyone got the same news, people from every political persuasion discussed the reporting. Now it is fractured into so many outlets, people go to the scourse that supports their beliefs. In those days the news departments were not expected to make a profit, so they didn't sensationalize to draw more eyes. You didn't have all this talk radio which keeps the stupid people pissed off all the time. In 1987 the FCC overturned the fairness doctrine, now allowing ownership of multiple radio and TV stations In a single market. All of this has lead to this mess.

No, I just missed news being required to equally present both side to a debate. That hijacking of the "4th branch of government" was done by the Clinton admin under the complete cooperation of the dem and rep parties. In other words, they both colluded to create a system free to misinform and lie to the public b/c it furthered their political ambitions. And people think voting makes a difference...

I do, I remember when Boston had 4 newspapers.

Yes, it struck me only yesterday … as I was placing rural campaign signs and noticing ‘named paper boxes.’ Got to thinking how I’d once delivered ‘the working man’s paper,’ eventually moving on to ‘the business owner’s newspaper’ back in Oregon.. Each had their slants & preferences, but were respectful, and ultimately had our state & nation’s best interest at heart. The Good ol’ Days 😟

Yes. And all the fake news was limited to the tabloids like the Enquirer.
