1. formal education or actual education? they're not mutually exclusive but they're not the same, nor are they of equal value.
2. why american history? is everyone here american? i am but that's me. i do not claim to speak for everyone here.
3. why american history? is that the only history that counts? and which history -- the one written by columbus advocates who think he discovered america and was a stand-up guy rather than a slave-trading, spanish-inquisition-promoting murderer, or the history that includes andrew jackson's crimes against native americans in the united states? the history that glorifies henry ford or the history that recounts how he took an obscure russian pamphlet (purporting to be about the jewish plot to conquer the world) called "the protocols of the learned elders of zion" and had it translated, printed and circulated all over the united states, thus singlehandedly stirring up a shitload of latent (okay, and active too) antisemitism?
4. we DO know that quiz sites are just gathering our contact info (and often more) in order to (at best) spam us later, right?

Not really. I last studied American history in fifth grade. School is only a scant introduction to knowledge. I learn more about our history continually.

American history need be only a small fraction of our total knowledge base. World history would seem more important.
