I have believed in existentialism pretty much since freshman year of college. I like motivators and planners, aspires, etc. I feel I've directly impacted the course of my life through planned aspirations and goals...though not completely. Im currently pondering an alternate philosophy of accepting the now as is with no desire for more. I'm not sure if I'm happy with that outlook...thoughts?

From an eighty year old don't worry things will work out if you approach them with a clear mind, plan your life to get the most out of it by travel, reading and just experience. Do not put off to tomorrow do as soon as possible what ever it may be. Do put some money aside for retirement every chance you get. Make good friends they will help in bad times. If you do not have a partner get one and keep them as life can be lonely at 80.

“If you're lonely when you're alone, you're in bad company.”
― Jean-Paul Sartre

@cava I did not mean that alone and I agree with your statement, one must like themselves to be happy

@cava Hell is other people.

Life happens no matter your needs or wants....reactions. that is your path....or lack thereof

I have pretty much lived serendipitously, most of my life. Most plans altered by unexpected events. Therefore I am not big on planning. I have moved to different states three times after a five minute or less discussion. I can relate.

It's a balance.

“A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy?”
-Einstein

“A happy man is too satisfied with the present to dwell too much on the future.”
-Einstein

“We know from daily life that we exist for other people first of all, for whose smiles and well-being our own happiness depends.”
-Einstein

"A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness."
-Einstein

“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life. All that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.”
-Einstein

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.”
-Einstein

The smartest man on the planet had a few differing thoughts on happiness from time to time. What makes you happy in one moment, may not make you happy in the next. I believe you should often reflect on where you are today, while keeping in mind where you want to be tomorrow. Change is good, stagnation is not. You can drive to progress towards your goals, and still be happy with this moment.

Never settle. I'm not into existentialism, but setting goals and trying to improve is what keeps me going.

We do need to learn to live in the moment while building a future. We also need to learn that we will encounter unanticipated opportunities and travails, and be able to adapt.
