It finally occurred to me that I was trying too hard. I can be overwhelming, and must remember to mute my personality. Have decided to just chat online , I come across much more favorably in person. ?

You don't have to mute your personality. Just be more discerning about what you share, and don't put your expectations on how people respond.

True, your words are wise?

You can try to mute all you want but at the end of the day we are who we are. Some will like it and some won't.....

Maybe so,and I know that my personality will still emerge, but I can still be a bit much at times.

@WayneDalton I was thinking out loud. I don't care what people think anyway

@WayneDalton I spent my childhood being told I was too much. I was just an extrovert in a family of introverts...

@Minta79 I was an extreme introvert when I was young and was able to overcome it. Much happier now.

If you have to mute your personality, you're not talking to the right person.

My thoughts exactly! Be you. It weeds out people who would waste your time.

It seems that the right person is not on this site as most people seem to react negatively to me.

@WayneDalton then the right person is somewhere else. Be you.

@Minta79 Always

you don't have to mute your personality. if you feel you come off too strongly, maybe you ARE trying too hard -- but that's not your personality. that's anxiety. calm down and be yourself and maybe your "self" won't be overwhelming.

My self is overwhelming without trying to be. I suppose I should just it all hang out?

@WayneDalton well, you can only be who you are!

@genessa and I do that well?

@WayneDalton lol. the trouble with some folks, and i don't know you so i cannot say, so i am not assuming, but it's important enough to mention, is that they cannot tell the difference between who they are and what their bad habits are. "i smoke -- that's who i am!" would be an example, right? that's not part of one's personality (though it can be so ingrained it seems to be one). so yes, be yourself, but if you think you should change some specific things, don't be afraid to do that for fear of changing your identity. (creative people in particular sometimes have this fear -- like, they're depressed or anxious but afraid that if they go to a shrink they'll lose their creativity. it's not true but it's a common fear.)
