I've been inivited to victory party by the local Democratic Club. I'm not sure it was such a victory. I rold them before that the main thing I like about Democrats is that they are not Republicans. I'll go and try hard to be good.

I hardly see what happened on Tuesday as any kind of "victory".
Yes, the pendulum has started to swing back in the opposite direction, but,
for the democrats to gloat at all is inappropriate.
There is far too much work to be done, in a decidedly hostile environment, for
any democrats to act like they "won".

I don't know that I could go and "be good".

@Sealybobo Congratulations, and I mean that most sincerely. However, there are still other states held by republicans. The Senate is still a republican stronghold, and 45 is still in the WH, and his "administration" is still wreaking havoc. The Courts are being stacked with conservatives, and it will take decades to undo much of the damage being done. Not to mention, there are still two years left before the next election. The further amount of damage that will be done is astronomical.

While I'm happy for you, and Michigan (hope the residents of Flint will eventually be able to potable water again), I don't have a lot of hope for the rest of the country given just how little has actually changed. Sure, the House majority has shifted and that will certainly be helpful, we're still stuck with a whole lot of fuckery.

@Sealybobo We are in agreement. Conservatives and republicans like to bang on and on about welfare and poor people looking for "handouts", but the BIGGEST welfare programs are those that benefit corporations. They get more than anyone else, and they're always whining about the "business climate".

@Sealybobo I do blame ALL of them. They ARE all to blame. I don't have to excuse greed, or indifference, or ignorance.

the main thing i like about democrats is that as a group they care about their constituents rather than their personal power. it WAS a victory. was it a complete victory? no. is it wonderful that now the house will be controlled by people who will actually investigate what the republicans pretended to investigate, and won't put bad legislation on the floor? yes, it is wonderful. voltaire said the best is the enemy of the good. he was right. if you want perfection, you are bound to be disappointed.

Not being Republicans is about all I like about Democrats. Want to guess what the one thing is I like about Republicans?

I'm not a member of either party. More anti-Republican than anything else.

I went to the local rally against Trump firing Sessions yesterday. Mostly just a walk around the court house shouting slogans. Didn't cause much of a stir. There were a couple of deputies with assault weapons wearing camo stationed at the door of the courthouse to keep us from going in, or, presumably, shoot us if we got out of hand. A jack-wagon yelled "socialists" at us as he drove by. Suppose he didn't know about the 1st amendment and it's guarantee of freedom to peaceably assemble and redress our grievances, or however that's worded.
