Veterans/Armistice Day - OUR Freedoms?

I will endure a lot of backlash for what I’m about to write. Please be advised that I don’t give a shit because this will be a truth that no one dare say aloud, but may be thinking at any point during a pathetic act, by our elected officials, to gaslight their way into fearful hearts.

  1. I will ALWAYS thank a soldier for their service and their sacrifice; they did what they were told to do, by puppet masters, that promised an education and a possibility to be a hero. What they weren’t told is that in order to be celebrated, they have to die or be severely injured or tormented. Everyone gets to celebrate a hero, EXCEPT A HERO.
Many have gone, many have died and will never come home…still other’s suffer the remains of what it was like; 20, 40, 60 years later. Some will arrive on home soil and instantly wish they’d never been born…worse yet, some may be wishing they’d been KIA because the life back home will never be the same. These will be the ones to put a gun to their mouths and swallow a bullet. These will be the ones that society forgot; on street corners, in a cold and unforgiving shelter, on the side of a liquor store…all they want is to dull the emotional pain, if just for a few hours. They may need help, but maybe it’s their way of saying: “CELEBRATE ME!; I FOUGHT, I CAME BACK…AND I CAN’T STAND WHAT I HAD TO DO, WHAT I’D BECOME AND WHAT I’VE COME HOME TO!”

  2. I will NEVER thank a soldier for “protecting our freedoms”. Point being, our freedoms haven’t been threatened on home soil since the Revolutionary War and Pearl Harbor; we won our independence from England and a tyrant King and a Japanese oppressor. Yay us!!
Our elected officials will send men and women to other countries to protect OUR freedoms? Really? I’d like to know what freedoms were threatened in Vietnam or Korea? What freedoms were threatened in Iraq (and I dare say that 9/11 was a ploy by the Bush regime - Iraqi oil was the prize - this was divulged to me by a former AF service member to remain unnamed). Which of OUR freedoms were threatened in Afghanistan? Which of OUR freedoms were threatened in Lebanon? Which of OUR freedoms were threatened in ALL these over seas places.
WWI & WWII; everyone went to assist allies; women did their part in factories, making bombs for their men to hurl at enemies. Fighting against Nazi Germany was our greatest feat at protecting OUR freedom from a tyrannical invader in the European hemisphere. Now; Neo-Nazism is afoot and on home soil…who’ll protect us now?
9/11 gave way to a fear of Muslims, when there wasn’t a single entity on those planes that had Muslim blood or ties - all were Saudi born and bred. The Saudis…our supposed allies? It’s to the point now that anyone of Middle Eastern descent is looked upon as a threat. What America doesn’t realize is that there is more of a threat of being terrorized in the UK than here. They suffer more attacks than we will ever suffer….and THAT was discovered when ISIL came to be. Travel throughout Europe is far easier and cheaper for ISIL to engage in, than to come here. Unless ISIL is recruiting here, they’re not having a very successful time of it. They recruit young people in Europe…easier and cheaper travel.

  3. OUR FREEDOMS; lets discuss this one.
I’ll let you know, on a grand scale, which of our freedoms are being attacked on home soil…and NOT BY FOREIGN ENTITIES.

A. THE RIGHT TO VOTE (Primarily speaking of the 15th Amendment) for legal American citizens; of color mostly. The blatant gerrymandering that plagues U.S. cities is horrid.

B. THE 14TH AMENDMENT: All 4 sections are under attack at present. Roe vs. Wade was decided under this amendment and it’s being threatened beyond belief.

C. THE FIRST AMENDMENT (We all love and know this one…or do we?) The right to Religion of our choice (or none at all), the right to free speech (this also includes hate speech, but lets be reminded that there are always consequences to what we say, out of hate). The right to a free press is being undermined at this very juncture in our country-hood; gas lighting, lies, and it was all started by Uncle Ronny; the FCC Fairness Doctrine (enacted in 1949) - he repealed it (1987)…basing that even the poisonous opinions of Fox News, Breitbart, and other opinionated outlets, are fair and unbiased reporting - HORSE SHIT! No FUCKING wonder American’s can’t believe a single bit of truth anymore. It states, in part, “A policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was—in the FCC’s view—honest, equitable, and balanced.”
Most recently, the blatant suppression of peaceful protest by the NFL. For fuck sake, read the Flag Code, before you go blaming anyone for disrespecting the flag.
The Right to Peacefully Assemble. “The First Amendment states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”…those grievances have YET to be heard and it doesn’t look like it’s going happen anytime soon.

D. THE SECOND AMENDMENT (yes, I loathe firearms, but I’ll NEVER vote to take that right away from anyone) This amendment has been on the table for decades, now, and what to do about a growing problem. The only problem that I see is that the murders committed in mass quantity aren’t committed by minorities, they’re not committed by angry women, they’re not committed by Muslims…all have been committed by white males with a penchant to “tell their story” or to make people aware that their “whiteness” counts. Sorry, to invade that thought, but masculinity and the porcelain appearance has always counted; while belligerently discounting other’s.
However, I digress…this Amendment has come under scrutiny. Some want all firearms banned; other’s just want the profanely disgusting ones put BACK ON BAN. It shouldn’t be too much to ask for society to be safe in schools, in restaurants, at concerts and in churches.

E. THE FOURTH AMENDMENT (ya, we’ve come to a point in our country-hood where this is an issue.) If you can’t feel safe in the home, from police authorities (unless you’ve done something heinous and disgusting), then where can you feel safe? Documented immigrants WHO HAVE FOUGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY IN UNIFORM were deported last year, under #45’s regime. It’s getting to the point where ICE can’t tell the difference between a documented immigrant and an undocumented one. Separating families, as a whole, because of the color of their skin.

In conclusion, I feel that these are the freedoms that we’ve been granted by our Constitution, that have been THREATENED ON HOME SOIL.
When a service member can actively protect us from ALL THREATS both FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC, then I’ll begin to thank them for “protecting my freedoms”.

Thank the alien somewhere out there I fell in with a kindred spirit! The hell with the Saudis and the Muslims look at Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Thank you all for your comments and critiques. This Veteran's Day, may you all find peace and continue to show your pride, in country, if not for government.

Aside from a couple small factors, I agree.

I never bought into the whole ‘we need to protect our freedoms’ line. When it comes to the Middle East they hate us because we are always there in their countries and doing the dirty work of our so called allies. Vietnam happened because of a way overblown fear of communism.

You make many cognizant points with which I can agree, especially as a vet. I will say this, and take it as constructive criticism from an old Writing teacher: if you are emphatic in what you intend to state and say you don't care about counter points, make sure everything you say cannot be pierced factually. Enough said. I won't tell you where you made some small factually errors as I am sure there are others who will crocodile you for them. Best wishes.

I am with you all the way.

Well said!

I don't really disagree. WW2 was the last "just war", to the extent there is such a thing. But when you think about it, that war was only necessary because fascism and hatred were studiously ignored and/or tacitly coddled for many years leading up to it. We are probably headed ultimately for WW3 because we're allowing haters to proudly march across the face of the earth, right now.

A good friend holds a similar view and continues (in thought) to wonder why our military (now largely reduced to corporate controlled mercenaries force to do the bidding of oil (etc)) does not step in to protect us from the corruption based in the White House.

Interesting link that (if real) supports this position. [agnostic.com]
