The 5 second rule is legit, as long as you interpret it reasonably. Of course it depends on how sticky/moist the food is and the type of surface but the longer a piece of food remains on the ground in general, the more bacteria itll pick up. Of course getting it within 5 seconds won't make the number of bacteria 0, but in general if you can grab it fast enough and it passes a visible inspection for not picking up dirt and hair, and if its a delicious high demand food item, eh. It probably won't kill you. Well it wouldnt kill me I should say. My immune system is awesome.

Avoiding cold temps to avoid colds/viruses is terrible advice though. Cold shock can increase your metabolism, immune system and enhance all sorts of automatic internal responses.

How stuff works, Wim Hoff

Does that take into account Murphy's Law? ex " The possibility of the bread landing buttered side down being increasingly proportionate to the price of the flooring?".

@RavenCT yeah thats always the case, if something has a dry side and a moist side the moist will always land face down. Thats one of those precursor conditions that youve gotta dodge before even considering the 5 second rule lol
