Where to start with these idiots.

I had to be a Debbie Downer with a gleeful Facebooker who was proudly showing off her husband's latest handywork that per The American Legion rules, this type of thing is never to be done with the American Flag.

WTF with these "patriotic" religious numbskulls that think it's ok to shit on everything that's sacred (Flag, not the cross).

THEOCRACY IS TREASON Betsy Ross would puke seeing her stars&bars crucified

Rabid nationalism is no better than rabid theism. Especially when they are intertwined.

Are we one of the few countries (US) that treats our flag as if it were Ft. Knox, the Holy Grail, or something equally revered?

Flag code was created by humans. If people want to burn a flag it's protected in their first amendment rights. I don't see why this is such a big deal. Do we want to protect people's rights or a piece of cloth? Yes, it's a symbol and a great symbol for what it was originally intended to portray, but it's still an inanimate object. The flag means different things to different people. In some times it can be a false symbol used by tyrants in our own government to shame citizens if they don't support their bullshit agenda while they wear the flag draped over their shoulder. We need to protect people's rights, not the perception of the flag. If you turn something like this into a "crime" or force people to see it how you see it, then what basis do you have to uphold your own 1st amendment rights?

Why did you have to be a Debbie Downer? Couldn't you have just let them enjoy their crafts and continued about your life?

All good people have to do to allow evil to prevail is do nothing. In this case say nothing. If we spent history in silence to the hypocrisies, in this case, and wrongs done onto society throughout history, we'd still be manged to believe the earth is flat and the center of the universe in which all evolve around. I give you Galileo. Just maybe she gave a pause to thought with her braveness to voice.

@William_Mary So you're equating belief that the earth is flat to flag crosses?
@Redcupcoffee Well, I guess way to power through it and try to make someone else feel bad?

@ThereisnoDog nice missing the point. Just saying.

We have the right to freedom of religion. I see tons of flag stuff all the time. I see no problem in having old glory trinkets. I personally fly America's first flag. The one with the snake on it...

No.

Sinclair Lewis: "When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."

Fascism is a liberal ideology. No true conservative wants big, overreaching governments. In fact we want more freedom.

@jayneonacobb I disagree. From Wikipedia: Fascism is a form of radical authoritarian nationalism, characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and control of industry and commerce, which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe. The first fascist movements emerged in Italy during World War I before it spread to other European countries. Opposed to liberalism, Marxism and anarchism, fascism is usually placed on the far-right within the traditional left–right spectrum

@jayneonacobb yet with the control of all houses today they take more and more of that freedom from you. As the democrats steadily slide into their realm of our destruction in a team effort. The disguise of less government in few areas they use leading to actually more when the outcomes are weighed in. As it is handed over to the newest branch of shadow governing, the bankers and corporations who have bought our government.

@HippieChick58 I'm talking about modern liberalism. Have you seen a college campus lately, or Anti-fa? That's fascism. Control over everything and dissention from the majority results in punishment. Colleges have had people in recent years "fight racism" by blocking white students from attending the classes that they paid for. That is fascism. Blocking speakers from speaking is fascism. Attacking people because the disagree with you, that is fascism. Forcing people to pay for charity is fascism. Demanding a basic income is fascism. There is a common thread to these behaviors. That thread is an overwhelming support from the left to engage in these activities.

@William_Mary I wouldn't call it a shadow government, just corruption. This is exactly why organizations like the CIA and FBI are dangerous to a society. They have too much power and tend to regulate themselves. Our system is broken because we made it too big. There's a reason people have toasters and not Rube Goldberg machines to make toast.

I've never been able to worship an inanimate object. But I can say that's not been true about me with a few people.

3

...and it's just tacky looking.

4

Yea, I'm not one to worship a flag. The fact that many of the self proclaimed holiest patriots of the American flag use it in ways against it's forbidden written laws shows me the same hypocritical tendencies of religion. The flag, the American way, both used in a manor to justify a cherry picked issue that lead to signs of flat out hypocrisy to support a manged perception in an attempt to divide. If I'm going to worship anything it's going to be our home and humanity. Peace.People.Planet.

I think it is actually sad to see how trivially easy it is to get the masses to adopt and support propaganda simply by appealing to their religion or patriotism.

By of died cloth sacred ???? I'd understand a bit if it had a dragon on it but even then it's just a bit of cloth

@icolan rules are made to be broken .

Listed in the days the flag should be displayed I was suprised to see Easter and Christmas mentioned.

Obviously they missed the founding fathers freedom from religion ideology.

I'm not much of a nationalist, as I think it's yet another division that keeps us distrusting, hating, and fighting one another, so this representation doesn't really bother me much. It does amuse me a bit, however, because I can't help but think that the blending of religion and patriotism is kind of frowned upon in the Bible, the idea that someone cannot serve two masters.

I agree about nationalism in general, but sometimes people need symbols too. Ambivalent, I guess.

Combining patriotism and religion on the other hand is not cool at all.

@arnies and confusing patriotism and nationalism is damned dangerous.

@JimG Thanks for the opportunity to correct my use of the terms.

@JimG I am no nationalist, for sure, and I don't feel that I have great cause for patriotism, except as a defense against a worse condition.

I feel like patriotism is an easy road to nationalism.

And nationalism, religion, all lead towards totalitarianism.

I feel it is time to focus on humanity as a whole. There are too many problems that are not getting solved due to borders.

I am talking basic needs, like Food, Clean Water, Shelter.

4

But you know, everything considered patriotic these days is a violation of the flag rules. Flying one from a moving vehicle violates the bad weather rule. Displaying a giant flag flat across a field before a sporting event violates the rule saying, "the flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free."

Personally I see it as a free speech issue and have no problem with any of these. I find it quite hypocritical when people engaging in behaviors I mentioned talk about respecting the flag.

d_day Level 7 Feb 11, 2018

I had not realized the code mentioned horizontal displays. Very interesting!

Additionally, it is ALWAYS supposed to be folded (in a very specific manner) when not flown. When they do the whole field drape thing... Watch what they do with it when they're done holding it over the field. Nine times out of ten it lays on the sidelines all wadded up. Then they get pissed about a guy kneeling, saying he's disrespecting the flag.

That flag regulation book, they treat it much like they treat their bibles.
