Could you commit murder?

Derren Brown has been making the podcast rounds of late. I think his subdued British mannerisms have prevented him from conveying just how insane his specials are. Complicated special effects, huge casts of actors, and one unaware participant pushed to the decision to commit murder. I can't recommend this enough!

since it takes everything within me not to kill people every day I have little doubt I could even though I haven't yet. the fact we have to produce chemicals to suppress violence leads me to think we all could under the right circumstances.

I think I could, but I'd certainly not want to be convinced or fooled into believing that I should. I mean, I took a small self-defense weapon with me the last time I faced a perceived threat, and I actually worried about if I had to use it, if I punctured a lung, if an ambulance could get there quickly enough... I had to be convinced by a third party that if it was in self-defense, the consequences were not my concern.

I don't think murder is in my nature.

@Humanistheathen Murder is a tall order. I'd like to think I would be immune to such pressure, no matter the consequences, but there's really no way to know unless put in that situation.

@Humanistheathen I'd honestly like to think that after all the "soul searching" (if you'll pardon the phrase) I've done, it would be a bit easier for me to notice when I'm being manipulated. Not saying I'm impervious, just that I've gotten better about not giving fucks about social compliance. I'm not particularly concerned with being socially acceptable. Normal is just a city in Illinois. ?

It would be a horrible thing to be exposed to the fact that you could do it. I haven't seen the show,but I feel sorry for the people who have to live with that fact. It seems unethical to do that to them in the name of entertainment.

I’d like to think I wouldn’t do something like that but nobody really knows what their mind might do in certain situations that they have never been in before.

I only know though that if I had to kill someone, I would hope that it be one of these two circumstances: self defense or a mercy killing.

If I had to kill someone to keep myself from being killed I would do it. And if someone was suffering badly and was going to die anyways, I’d be willing to cut it short for them. If they wanted me to of course.

We all have the capability to kill. Our soldiers are paid killers and murderers. We as a nation support these killings/murders.

Yes, we can be pushed to commit murder. Anyone ever watch the news or read about daily events? Have you ever heard or wars, or do you see a violent backlash of "everything Trump" going on right now. Trump is not causing it, of course. He just uses the worst in human nature to satisfy his own ends and needs.

Depends on what you consider murder. I am fine with Euthanasia and abortion, I eat meat (I'm pretty omnivorous) but don't see killing people personally. I do not support the death penalty. I'm sure there are situations where it would be necessary but I don't think I am likely to run into those scenarios and in many cases it still isn't the only option.

I looked at this pic, Derren Brown is a great debunker and a clever man. He looks worringly unwell on this pic though.

2

It's not the question of could you do it, can you live with yourself after doing it?
I'm not weighing ethics or morality or making judgments, I'm asking a simple question.

I think every human alive is capable of murder.

What on earth is a subdued British mannerism??

He must be from down south.

@MrBeelzeebubbles Well I'm a loud bolshy Northerner! Nowt subdued about me!

@OwlInASack You are from Jersey, so you are at least posh if not a bit French too 😉

@Amisja whereas I'm Australian originally, and we are internationally renowned for our subdued, if not downright meek nature.

@MrBeelzeebubbles Poor delicate flower, how do you survive the ravages of modern life 😉

@Amisja

@Amisja woe is me...

@MrBeelzeebubbles Should you be working? I should too. CBA (teaching at 1pm)

@MrBeelzeebubbles Yes deffo ubiquitous work's lanyard. With ID card??

@Amisja yes, but detailed, acronym laden technical documentation is making my eyes swim. Good luck with your class.

@MrBeelzeebubbles Me sciving

@Amisja (wags finger in disapproval and makes tutting noises)

@MrBeelzeebubbles End of semester blurgh...anyway off to be fab. Have a good day

@Amisja backatya.

@Donotbelieve Amisja and Mr Beelzeebubble's Sodcast: Putting the World to Rights, One Sarcastic Insult at a Time.

@OwlInASack Pfft. We get thumped by everyone at rugby these days.

@MrBeelzeebubbles hahaha

@MrBeelzeebubbles, @OwlInASack Well I am from Oswaldtwistle, no one is posh or French here. In fact no one is even middle class. They are all poor cave dwellers (called Gobiners...its real google it!). They only come out at night, are frightened by electric light and drink room temprature beer.

@Amisja, @owlInASack there are people who think they're posh in Australia, but they're just wankers. Country's not old enough for old money.

@MrBeelzeebubbles But some of them took old money and prestige with them.

@OwlInASack all of us? Are we playing cards?
