You are so right about that.

The 14th amendment was never Intended to automatically award US citizenship to the babies of Foreign parents who happen to be here when their child was born.The 14th amendment was Specifically written to grant full citizenship rights to all former slaves and their children to prevent the states from Writing new laws Depriving them of those rights(which Shamefully the southern states did when they passed the racist Jim Crowe laws In the late 1800s.Something written to protect slaves 150 years ago has morphed into an open legal door for birthright citizenship.

Maybe the Supreme Court will straighten this out sometime, especially since Trump has put 2 good conservative judges on the bench.

Possibly the liberals may learn something.

I am tired of this anchor baby crap .They should all be deported with their deplorable mothers.

You can not feel sorry for these people .These woman have an incentive to come here pregnant and are unfit to be mothers in the first place if they would put an unborn baby in an extremely dangerous situation.So basically child cruelty is condoned

Yes I agree.

I know a lot of people will do a knee jerk response without really understanding how complex and pervasive this issue really is. My son-in-law was in med school and did a stint in El Paso, Texass. He was amazed at the number of women, young and old, who snuck across the border to have their child. And this was one of many borders. Of course it was on our tab. It also makes deporting such people harder and even sets up the country for issues further down the road. Another complex issue being made with simple sound bites. We are one of only a couple of countries that have this law. It has far outweighed it's need and should be abandoned.
Our laws should not be about individuals but about sustainable policies under which all (immigrants and citizens) must live and thrive.

If you look at the right wingers commenting. None of them live in border states. Immigration is not an issue here in Texas. It’s a right wing fear monger talking point. Haven’t you noticed, the caravan has caravanished from faux news and trumpski’s twitter feed. Unfortunately, the American economy depends on illegals. The border states governors know this. These people give more to the country than they ever take.

@Green_eyes Sorry, I totally disagree. When we depend on illegal it's is a sad day for all. I know all about Texas as I am from there and my family lives there. My brother is a very successful architect and one day he was showing us an apartment annex he had drawn. He said ICE came in the other day and cleared out all the illegal workers. He then laughed and said it doesn't matter because more will take their place. So the message is don't hire citizens or those naturalized but instead those who are willing to work for peanuts, get no benefits and are controllable. So much for employer integrity.

Deport the mother ....and the kid will have to tag along.

You are one of the few sensible ones.

@Trajan61 The fact she left her home country pregnant tells me everything about her intentions...and, also, that she doesn't give a piff about the kid.

The Constitution has been interpreted to mean that anyone born inside the U.S. is automatically a citizen. Unless there is test case wherein the Supreme Court interprets it otherwise, it will take a Constitutional Amendment to change it so that a person born here, albeit to non-citizen parents is not a citizen. Do you think such an amendment could muster the 2/3 majority vote of the states?

I agree with your first sentence…

Yes, she is probably going to be deported and separated from her baby and then she will have to wait 25-31 years before her anchor baby can even apply for her to get a green card...assuming that the baby has not been adopted or even returned back to the mother...

that would motivate me to try it, not anything like hoping that my child had a better life than I could have...

so selfish of her..

She needs to be deported and her baby will have to tag along.

@Trajan61 Needs? What needs to happen is that we have to make changes to the laws that allow for faster and fairer processing and to find a way to get back our compassion for the plight of others. What if it was your granddaughter and her child? How does this woman and her plight affect your life? You seem to have an inordinate amount of bitterness and hate in your life...that is your curse, not mine.

@thinktwice I’d like to keep the country from being overrun with imigrants. If we allow this to continue we will have a terrible overpopulation problem.

@Trajan61 We already are all immigrants...and nope, all of the old baby boomers crap will be dead...it is a large group...statistically speaking, do you know how many people that would be? No worries....white and US born will be the largest group for too long...

@Trajan61 The country has been around a long time and it hasn't happened yet.

@nvrnuff No it hasn’t but since over population is a big problem I think it’s high time it did happen.

@thinktwice All we are now is an overpopulation pop off valve for the Catholics who encourage people to have more children. Hell Mexico City is one of the fastest growing cities in the world even though they already have to many.

@Trajan61 Since when is over population a problem?

@nvrnuff Probably since the skin tones got darker....

as well, the second half of the equation is taking care of the world and maintaining ecosystems that will support the populations now and into the future...how a person can even discuss population control as a reason for stopping immigration and not support climate control and environmental issues goes to show the length some will go to throw out anything and hopes it sticks to the wall...that Catholics are the ones who are overpopulating the world is yet another myth to create this odd method of supporting bias against immigrants...

@nvrnuff ,Trajan61 The US population is growing by over 2,000,000 people a year .Half of this is from immigration .The US population is using renuable resources twice as fast as they can be regenerated.The average American is responsible for over three times the greenhouse gas Omissions of the global average.I would say this is a MAJOR problem.

@Emanuele Going to need some sources before I will believe that.

@nvrnuff

actually...slowest growth rate since 1937, and projected to slow down even more over the next 10-15 years...HOWEVER...what is correct is that USA has the largest impact on resources...we are pigs and suck up more natural resources than any other country right now with current policies trending toward making this worse...so, it is easier to blame it on the immigration policy rather than the policies of greed and corruption...

[nytimes.com]

@thinktwice The first part of his comment is what I didn't believe.

@nvrnuff agree

Seems like that rent a wife of your president who came here illegally and lied about her education was able to bring her whole useless family along for the ride.

Oh, but they were allowed to apply under the status of exceptional and much needed skills category...and the time limit was magically waived...go figure

Wish someone put an anchor on your mama.
