What a classic! Still makes my heart race.
In so many ways, that entire album is the Eagles' high-water mark.
And the title track is the jewel in the crown. The guitar-playing is impeccable, hard-edged L.A. fuzz-rock softened with Spanish-sounding acoustic. And the lyrics take a hard, unflinching look at the dreams of America, and just what is so alluring about them, and also so terribly wrong.
"....How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat,
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget...."
I got the album from my older brother. The whole damn thing is awesome!!! Still after 42 years sounds great.
