Help! I want to watch a movie that will scare the shit out of me. I've watched so many scary movies, but none have scared me for the past 30 years. Any suggestions?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original. Nightmarish! Read up on what the actors went thru in this incredibly low-budget movie.
The sequels, especially the one with Dennis Hopper, fully drugged-out, is hysterically funny, as when he fluffs his lines, the other actors keep going As If he had spoken, among other delights!

I'm with you. I really want to see a truly scary movie, but the stuff that scared me as a kid seems lame. Supernatural horror is laughable. Jump scares are lame and predictable. Slasher flicks are all the same.

I wouldn't call this scary, but....

1974's It's Alive

A few episodes of Black Mirror were seriously creepy because they aren't far from potentially becoming reality.

A compilation of Donald Trumps Rally Speeches should do it???

The Audition..... Get Out.... Wrong Turn

Oddly "Ghost Story" [imdb.com]

Gave me the creeps! And I watch way scarier horror than that. But something about it? Eek....

John Carpenter's The Thing (1982). Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) or (1978 ) Both (all three) are low blood and gore, but extremely frightening and suspenseful.

"What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" Classic actresses and gave me chills just thinking about it. Maybe more chills than scary and if you don't eat your breakfy...

Since you are not a fan of blood and gore, try "Jacob's Ladder" and "The Serpent and the Rainbow". I also personally enjoy good post apocalyptic movies, although I am not sure these qualify as wholly being in the horror genre.

One of my all time scariest is Signs. I don’t do blood and gore. Aliens scare the crap out of me! Plus Joaquin Phoenix ❤️❤️❤️

I'll give you a couple of real recommendations; The Changeling. It's a 1980 ghost story that is genuinely creepy. It stars George C. Scott and Trish Van Devere. Don't confuse it with the Angelina Jolie movie of the same name.

It's great.

Another one would be the 2013 remake of Evil Dead. Be warned, it's brutal. If you can't handle blood, gore and violence, stay away. If you can, it's Horror with a capital H.

@Dragonfly1965 Drop a line afterwards and let me know what you thought. It's a favorite for me.
