Place to share fab. prog. rock, i love it and don't know enough. I'll get the ball rolling with, Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd. If I've got the genre wrong feel free to educate me, I was, 'only' born in '74 😉

I have been told that Pink Floyd falls under the category of space rock. But I was only born in '76.

When I think of prog rock, I think of Yes, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, and King Crimson. I love King Crimson. Jethro Tull kind of fits there too, in my opinion. Of course, there are later examples, but I kind of lost track as I got older and got into different things.

It's all subjective but yeah Id say Pink Floyd is one of the main influences that sent prog rock into motion. ELO and Yes obviously too, Im sure youve heard most of their singles. Rush, Styx are a couple other primo examples. Frank Zappa and Col. Bruce Hampton, earlier avante gard weirdos like them might be considered prog too.

Modern prog rock got more and more intricate and bizarre like the Mars Volta. My ear can't follow them at all, I like my music just slightly more predictable. Pink Floyd, ELO, Hampton, and Zappa are my fav examples of those.

@Humanistheathen yeah they're insane but something about music that complex and in your face just hypes me up n gives me anxiety lol. I got a speeding ticket thanks to them once but they're definitely worth a listen if you're expanding your taste. You definitely havent heard anything like em.

I've never heard of "fab prog rock." Progressive rock, yeah, but fab? What does that stand for?

Short for fabulous but I presume she's probably using it as an adjective and not part of the genre's name?

If you did want to call a genre "fab prog rock" Id imagine a supergroup between Robert Palmer, Rick James, David Bowie, Prince, Bootsy, the better half of Genesis, Elton John, and James' Brown's Hornline, all on molly, in LED suits and blackout facepaint petting the walls of a fuzzy room. No eyemakeup or hair though, that'd be glam fab prog rock for sure.
