Do any of you former believers still say or think phrases from your Christian days? All day long today this phrase has been rattling around in my head: "God's in his heaven. All's right with the world." I can't seem to shake it loose.

When trump "won" the election, I yelled, "Jesus fucking Christ!".

it's like a commercal jingle, isn't it?

but no, the one you name i never did say (i've also never been christian so i have no christian days). i say "jesus christ" if i bang my toe, although "oh fuck" is just as good, and in neither case am i to be taken literally.

I never had any Christian days, partly because I was born into a non-Christian family and partly because I never believed in any sort of deity. Nevertheless, I do sometimes use religious phrases, freely choosing from Christian, Jewish and Muslim examples; mostly because it amuses me to see how irate some atheists get when I do.

Now I'm thinking of that line from Aldous Huxley's Brave New World: “Ford's in his flivver; all's well with the world.”
