According to the "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" book series by douglas Adams, The world is a scientific experiment to find otu the meanign of hte universe... and it was designed and funded by mice. See, "So Long And Thakis For All The Fish" .. at leat I think that is the book in the series that reveals this.
BTW, Douglas Adams wrote comic science fiction... just in case anyone thought the above was to be taken seriously.
@snytiger6 It's hard to remember which one it is, there are five books in the trilogy.
That's thinking outside the box.
