These are two topics that are very much present at my family dinner table. It makes it so that whenever I talk to someone about these topics, I treat them with the same respect I would afford my family, regardless of the strength of our disagreement.

I agree with you - I find it offensive being pulled up for something I said about religion or politics or even the state of my country when I will never shirk from apologising handsomely for any offence I unwittingly caused

Civility is what is missing in much of political and religious discourse. We could learn much from each other with a little respect. I think we are manipulated by the media, and our politicians. I always wonder who benefits from such a polarized politician?
