Are you saying I don't have the right to not listen to someone I find offensive? Because that idea has been around for a long time..

The right always decries political correctness, but there is plenty of politically correct views on the right. Even the suggestion that some (if not all) guns should be banned is politically incorrect. It's dismissed as crazy or completely impossible, as if the second amendment can't be amended because amending the amendments is impossible...except that other time we did it. (Or suggesting massive levels of responsibility on gun owners as they do in some other countries--because, you know, we like to be irresponsible gun owners because freedom.) Or suggesting we do away with the electoral college--think of the vast amounts of mostly empty land that won't get a say, while big cities filled with people and votes will get an equal say to those living in North Dakota or Wyoming? Again, politically incorrect to even suggest it. And you better not point out the lopsided representation in the Senate. How often have Senators who represent a minority of the population passed things that will have far reaching consequences for decades to come? Or what about the suggestion of mandating voting or paying a small fine...the way they do in Australia? We can't have that, as we don't really want more people voting.

What's the problem with expecting people to be civil. Its not a sign of weakness. Its a sign of an more enlightened individual. Still trying reach that level.

We have criminal laws, and enforce it fairly strictly. Doesn't mean that we believe we "should live in a world where there is no crime." That would be unrealistic. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have criminal laws.

There is "offended" and there is "offended." Some offensiveness is inevitable, may be negligible. Some others not so much. It is not binary or discreet. Clearly, there are things that people can say to you that you might find offensive. We all do. There is a line that should not be crossed. But that line isn't completely subjective, or individualistic.

For example, someone can call me an asshole. I am ok with that, and probably the majority of people would agree that is not that offensive. It is a negligible level. But if someone were to call me "chink" or a "gook" I would find that highly offensive. I also believe that the majority of people would also agree with me that it is highly offensive and should not be done. Among some community, there may be people who might find that term not so offensive. It is a matter of raising the awareness why that term may be very offensive. This raising the awareness does NOT mean that I believe "people should live in a world where they are never offended."

It appears that you have been a victim to the counter-propaganda against the efforts to raise some awareness of what we do and what we say.
