The old adage "insects are more afraid of me than I am of them" is bullshit. I've never crawled on a spider's neck while he was peacefully enjoying a glass of wine!! ?

But but but, spiders are not insects. They are arachnids. Therefore that statement doesn't apply to them you see. Although my tarantula, Champagne, with a diameter of 6.5 inches and almost as big as my hand, is still a big chicken.

@Kattywampus69 I have 4 tarantulas. Though Champagne is my biggest one. And my Shiver is just a baby still. I have the image of Cyan who passed away tattooed on my chest. Love those fuzzy buggers.

Do insects have a concept of fear? Are insects advanced enough to experience emotions? Or, are they simple responding to situations and to flooding pheromones? Is a bee actually anger or is her response a simple defense mechanism? I'm not sure at what level any animals start to feel emotions. Some absolutely do.

Neither do mosquitoes seem to understand it.

@Kattywampus69 Mine too. The worst is trying to get to sleep with one buzzing around.

This reminds me of the time, many years ago, when I pulled off the road under a tree to empty my bladder, then got back into my car and continued my trip. The back of my neck felt ticklish, though, and I ran my fingers around my collar and felt something squishy and slimy. It freaked me out momentarily and I nearly ran off the road. I never knew exactly what it was because I accidentally squashed the critter, but I think it was a small caterpillar that dropped out of the tree. I'm usually calm and collected when I know what it is I'm dealing with, but occasionally I'm caught off guard.
