I just finished installing my tankless water heater. Saved big bucks. I really like doing plumbing and it looks good when it is done right.

After one of the tanks in my last home leaked and caused me problems I went with a builder that did tankless this time around. You did a great job! You’ll love it.

It's a tankless job.

That looks great! I put the new sticker on my license plate. I had to use a screwdriver to take the plate out of the frame to do it. That is the extent of my technical ability. I admire people who can do stuff like this, cuz I sure can't. Good job, KGY. This looks like it was a tankless job, too. 🤓

You can do anything you have/want to do. I never built a house before I built this one. I did everything on my house from bricking, slab, shingling, electrical, plumbing, sheet rock.....all of it. I saved tens of thousands of dollars building it myself and taught the boys how to do all of these things though they didn't appreciate it at the time. It helps to have a friend that knows but much you can get right off the web. It is a LOT of work though I will admit but personally I enjoyed building my house and the shops but there were those moments.

@kgoodyear I salute you partner. ?

Looks fantastic. Was it really expensive? I'm thinking of building a tiny home next year and thought about doing one of these to save space.

Expensive is relative. It's expensive initially but the payback is pretty fast. I am also going to apply for a credit on my gas bill. They are now making them that mount to the outside of your house. Very easy especially if you plan ahead with your plumbing.

To digress, I might also suggest you study very carefully before you build a tiny house. I believe they are over rated and not a good idea. In many areas you may not be able to pass code with them and you may not be able to sell your property with one as a residence. They can be problematic.

@kgoodyear Thanks for the info. The tiny home I'm looking to build is on wheels so it will be moveable. I just want something smaller and no mortgage. I've been doing a lot of research on them and have read the pro's and con's, and so far it seems like it will be a good fit for me. And since I'm having it built on a frame with wheels I can move it if I ever need to.

@Redheadedgammy Sounds like a plan. Be safe.

so that things heats water so fast, it can do it while its flowing through? Never understood how those work.
Looks like 3/4" copper coming up on the left. The right is older corroded copper? Compression fittings all around? Did you sweat much? Everyone here uses PEX

I have a 1" feed line with a 3/.4 T to the heater. They don't make 3/4 flex pipe so I hard plumbed my gas feed. My cold and hot water are all 3/4 because they are going to a manifold where it splits it out in 1/.2" lines. Basically, the high efficiency ones preheat the water and then run it through a core that works like a radiator in reverse. When there is a demand, the burners come on immediately and this new one sounds like it has forced air mixed with the gas to make it even hotter and burn more efficiently. The exhaust is PVC and only gets warm. This eliminates the much more expensive double wall necessary for the lower efficiency. This one is .92 efficiency.

Nice job.

Just remember Plumbing has as much water leaving as is fresh water coming in.... not all plumbing is pleasant.....

Ok, so I don't like repairing septic lines!

I like plumbing too - it provides multiple opportunities to visit the hardware store, and enlighten those nearby regarding my vast (but rarely used) vocabulary of swear words🙂

I really like doing plumbing. I built my house so I had reasonable access to all my plumbing. It helps when you built the house yourself. You know how everything is put together and you make it easy for repairs.

I think I had 4 or 5 trips. Fortunately I live close by Lowes!!!

@kgoodyear
That’s typical for most any job I do🙂

It is a lot like playing with Tinker Toys!

I wish I could do stuff like that. Good on you.

With a guy like me around to show you the ropes you can!
