Thanks to everyone who responded to my post regarding racism. What I ended up discovering is if you are going to tell others what to think, or how to act you had better be squeeky clean yourself. So being an atheist to them would nullify anything I had to say. The walkaway is probably the best approach. Again thanks to all.

in what way is atheism not squeaky clean? i don't agree that the walkaway is necessarily the best approach. it depends on how much contact you're going to have with these people, and on other factors as well, but NOT on whether or not you believe in deities! atheism nullifies nothing unless you're trying to tell them how to worship their god.

Not squeeky clean in their eyes. Not my eyes or yours.

Probably a wise decision but could be a missed opportunity. It is something I would not attempt myself and I admire you for even considering it. Having been raised in the deep south, if you gave any hint that you supported equal rights, you were labeled a "nigger lover" and opened yourself up to a world of hurt. Thankfully that only exists very limited now.
