I really need to say something, and I figure here is perhaps the only safe place I can say it online.

Tonight on my drive home I was going through radio stations, trying to find some good music, when I came across the Catholic radio network that calls itself "Relevant Radio." And some guy was on there going on and on about how truly in danger America is if we don't build this idiotic "30-foot high wall" along our border with Mexico. And then some woman came on and said that the Democrats can't call this idiotic idea "immoral" because they're all about "killing innocent children" (or as sane people call it, abortion.)

Sadly this is just the latest time I've listened to one of these "Christian" radio programs and 95% of what they're talking about has NOTHING whatsoever to do with Christianity. All they do is echo Republican talking points. I read the Bible in school EVERY DAY for nine years, and I never read anything about building walls to keep people out of your country, or how wrong it is that a teenager can't work for the summer in Wisconsin Dells because the big bad gubbrmint invited children from poor countries to work those jobs instead, or about gun rights, or about why we shouldn't have to pay taxes. Yet these are ALL things I have heard being talked about on "Christian" radio.

It's just appalling how deeply Christians have gotten into bed with the Republican Party. It's one thing when my ignorant redneck uncle spouts everything Rush Limpbag says like it's gospel, but it's another thing entirely when a Christian leader spouts it as if it's "the God's honest truth." (Forgive the pun but you see what I'm saying.) We're at the point now where they will just stand behind ANYTHING a Republican says. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - these people would vote for Adolf Hitler if he ran as a Republican. "Yeah, he says he wants to murder an entire race of people, but it's okay because he's 'pro-life.'"

I'm not saying Democrats are any better; that's a topic for another time.

I could go on and on but it's late and I need to get to bed.

Being the glutton for punishment that I am, I often listen to Fox radio and Xian radio just to stay updated on what they're saying to keep their listeners ignorant and uninformed. It's interesting in the same way a car crash is -- it compels you to look. Leave it to the Xians to embrace the most godless man alive as the president just because he's a republican and pays lip service to the issues that motivate them: keeping out the brown people, keeping the gays down, and cramming their fucking god down everyone's throat.. Their hypocrisy is boundless.

Every radio station in San Angelo, even the rock station, plays SRN news. SRN is a conservative, christian news network.[srnnews.com]
I’ve heard “news” about Ken Hams Ark, christian persecution across the world and 100% support for Trump.

Yep. On FB somebody called me a baby killer and that I wanted to kill their grand children. All I said was my daughter owned her body and no one should tell her what to do with it. (I didn't say so at the time - but now I can say, including me) these asswipes have no listening skills. Hit them with science, common sense, or even history and they go ape shit. Try telling one that the Puritans allowed abortion until quickening. Or, just quote the bibly about kindness to neighbours and such.

They used the bible to condone slavery...you actually think putting up a wall to build a prison state is so out of context?

My grandmother used the bible to justify white supremacy. Heard it my entire childhood. Sick.

Hey. If English was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for America. /snark

It doesn't matter how asinine something is... It can be the worst idea of all time... It can appall all except a small few... It can be obvious to the rest of the world...

But there is ALWAYS someone who will drink the Kool Aid!

I think this is an entirely US thing (happy to be corrected as I have heard people from Australia say something similar). Here in UK, politically religious people tend to be more left wing and indeed several leaders of the Labour Party where children of the clergy. The right follow a Neo-liberal/ laise fais approach to business and tend to be harder nosed market types.

I have heard the US version of Christianity is a beast all unto itself. Haven't been in Europe in years, but my impression is that christians there are not near as fanatical or hysterical.

The main religions are all in bed with THEM. The government system is purposefully confusing to hide the fact that there is no difference between democratic and Republican and it works amazingly well.

This is why I do not take dem or repub or Catholic or Christian seriously. The people at the tops of government know they're all in the same boat and those at the top of religion know the truth and don't even believe the creative myths they spew.

It reminds me of Hitler. He spewed mainstream religious rhetoric but behind closed doors believed in the occult. Same still happens now. the poor sheep are being laughed at behind close doors for believing all the nonsense.

It is astounding how morally corrupt they are.

The current Christian Repubs are insane. I get caught up listening to that crap sometimes too. The stupidity can be so captivating. I'm kind of economically conservative. And very liberal when it comes to everything else.

Why do you torture yourself listening to Christian radio? Sure most Democrat politicians are a little dishonest and corrupt, but are they really as bad as Republicans?

why would you say most dems are a little dishonest and corrupt? have you any evidence of that? the thing is, both political parties have a lot of elected officials affiliated with them, so there are bound to be some dishonest and corrupt people, but the democratic party does not exist to enrich itself, and it does not cheat to stay in power. that's not the party line or the party platform, nor how it operates.
the republican party does both. the democratic party has had some weirdos in it, and you know what happens to them when they're discovered? the dems oust them. the republicans have a SHITLOAD of weirdos, and you know what happens to them when they're discovered? they get confirmed to the supreme court; they win their primaries and have their parties' support no matter what. the republicans circle the wagons. there is a HUGE difference between the two parties as far as corruption and dishonesty go, and that's not even the only difference.

g

Yes...they are. Both parties are just opposite sides of the same coin.

@jondspen This is the exact creeping rhetoric the side that wins wants you to believe - and you not only eat it up - you (and others around here) disseminate it. Those of us from the trenches know better, we’ve the scars of experience as proof. Others simply chant the propagandistic undertones of those with the resources to have brainwashed them.

The thing is - when answers are requested - those who apparently have it all figured out go mute ….. as those who’ve made the effort to advance, continue to do so… if wading through slighter deeper bullshit, thanks to you..

@Varn First...I can't understand hardly anything you are saying - please form complete and grammatically correct sentences. Second...don't assume you know anything about me, or the trenches I have dug, lived in, shit in, and bled in. Thank you!

@jondspen Reads like you ‘got it,’ to me 🙂

@Varn I get that you can't make a point without character attacks, which is unfortunately the norm instead of intelligent dialogue on a topic. Here is an article that articulates some of my POV on the matter. [ivn.us]

*EDIT - Here's another link for you. [thefetalposition.com] I really like the closing comment in the article, which I think accurately describes the sameness of our current two party system. "Please do not be selectively authoritarian. Be consistent."

@jondspen And I’m sorry you’re one who needs a link to ‘explain themselves.’ And, if you feel your ‘character was assassinated,’ then the shoe must have fit?

I am just sick of the false equivalency bullshit spewed from those simply parroting a propagandistic line [ including this line from the original poster: “I'm not saying Democrats are any better” - or this: “Sure most Democrat politicians are a little dishonest and corrupt...” - followed by this: “Both parties are just opposite sides of the same coin.” ] … horse, dog, or bull shit …. I lack the resources of ‘the koch brothers’ to fight it.

But I do, and will, because ignoring it obviously doesn't work; it leaves millions sitting on their hands, voting for powerless parties - and allowing our true oppressors to advance. Though, attempting to explain it could become a full-time job 😕

@Varn Yea...I learned how important outside sources are in my graduate work. It's called references, and they are used to backup your research, data, and interpretation. I am smart enough to know I don't have all the answers, nor a full grasp of every facet of every issue, so I do rely on the insight of others to give INTELLIGENT and MEANINGFUL ANALYSIS. From there, I discern their perspective and make a determination if they are bias in their presented ideas, or actually have something meaningful to say. What I don't give credence too, is people who resort to character assassinations and assumptions to try and win an argument.

@jondspen ...and CAP LOCKS, too? ..sorry, I prefer it from the horse's mouth. And we’re not in graduate school, we’re all grown up, sharing heart-felt and hard-earned lessons, observations and conclusions.

Don’t know how many candidate’s forums you’ve attended, candidate recruiting you’ve been involved with, party platform committees, public outreach ... public debates you’ve attended or the depth of your political homework.. But I’ve done mine, and without the slightest doubt - know for a fact - candidates from the Democratic Party were and remain far & away the best qualified, most progressive, tolerant, and honest of our two ‘major parties.’

So, to read the constant drip ..drip ...drip of demeaning rhetoric, having just given three current examples - lights me up! I’ve volunteered and worked for the best of candidates - with a world of difference between themselves and their Republican opposition - and watched them lose.. Many did not expect to win - but gave of their time, resources and physical presence in order for people like you to have an honest alternative. So when listening to the reckless rhetoric, if instigated from decades of Republican and Koch Brothers funded propaganda ..having trickled down to even ‘here,’ a site promoting the advancement and community of a cultural subset most Republicans would exterminate if/ when given a chance … it makes me sick.

@Varn Yes yes,,,I know...if only the democrats held all the power, society's problems would be fixed. All that is needed to be an intelligent, compassionate, enlightened person is membership in a political party. So glad to hear the solution to all our problems is just a vote away. Yay!
