Actually that meme is true, the Library of Alexandria suffered fire damage twice in ancient historical times.
The first being when the armies of Arsinoe and Ptolemy laid siege to Alexandria when Julius Caesar 'met' with Cleopatra, the Library was struck by a number burning missiles thrown from catapults and about 30% of the scrolls and informations contained there were burned to ashes.
The second occurred when the Christian Movement took exception to the teachings of scholars such as Hypatia of Alexandria and the works, etc, stored in the Library. The Christian mob destroyed approx. 85% of ALL the scrolls, etc, burned the Library to the ground and then proceeded to demolish the ruins before pursuing Hypatia and other scholars into the desert and literally tearing them to pieces.
