Black People Dismantle "White Privilege" Some reality SWJs do not know. And will refuse to learn about.
I don't know many white people who wake up each morning wondering how they will be discriminated against or slighted that day just for their skin color...that is a privilege only afforded whites.
I don't know many white mothers that start the day telling their children to not get noticed, to listen to every word a police says and more so they won't be killed for the color of their skin....
I don't know many white men who can walk down the street with a white friend and be called a bad name by passing cars for being white....a black man walking down the street with a white friend will hear racial slurs and shrug them off as "normal"...
I can understand that white people don't see this as privilege...but to see blacks not seeing it is just denial of those who have raised themselves up economically to the status of elite...they might think they have gotten beyond this, but if they were a fly on the wall, they would hear how their white "friends" really think...a few blacks do not represent the experiences of millions just because they choose not to see it.
I think the points they make are true as well and go hand in hand....yes, blacks and whites have the same struggles, but the color of skin adds an extra burden and needs to be acknowledged to go away.
I choose to believe in the stories of my black friends and family...
Well said.
White privilege is a myth that began in this country in 1492. The conquerors just had to be superior in some way. Powers that be thought it had to do with skin color. It does have some remote truth however. If your community has 2000 people and only 19 of them are black I would say the whites had privilege.
