Why is it when there is a disaster such as a plane crash or earthquake and there are a few survivors all you hear is "it was a miracle?" But no mention of the other few hundred people that died. This always bothered me.
I have a friend, religious, who survived Katrina. She often said I was saved by God. I asked her bluntly one day, “why did he save you and not all the others”. She was speechless and had no answer. She said later that question has put her in a quandary about her belief.
The 'Miracle on the Hudson' is a perfect example. People want to believe that god saved them when really it was just a very intelligent and skilled pilot (Sully) who was able to land the plane safely on the bay. Anytime something good happens, it was god's intervention, but whenever a tragedy occurs like 9/11 or Las Vegas or the recent terror attack in NY, all the religious zealots will say that those things happened due to homosexuals or people going 'against god.' That really drives me nuts.
It's like being a doctor. God gets all the credit when things go right but you get all the blame (and lawsuits) when they don't
