From what I can find on here, there aren't many people who do serious world travel. I'm addicted to it, but find that's it's not as easy as it used to be. I've been a solo traveler most of the time and there just seem to be too many things to remember as I get older. Now I'm ready to partner up, at least for part of my next trip which is August into September 2019, starting in London, and then on to Scotland and Ireland. Anyone interested in doing some of this trip with me. Round trip ticket to London were pretty low and month ago and might still be. I got one for $640 RT from California.
There are some good festivals going on in Edinburgh in August. I'm especially interested in one called the Fringe Festival.
I'm good at traveling on the cheap, have even used Couch Surfing and have made some good friends that way.
If you need a free bed/bunk/camping spot in N. Ireland gimme a shout nearer the time ?
I've been to Edinburgh (on the Furth of Forth) it's a neat place and so is Inverness (didn't get to meet Nessie, though).
Yes travel, I live in Minnesota, but used to live in Alaska, then Hawaii. Living somewhere is much different than visiting.
On my bucket list, is to go back to Florence Italy.
I have family there, and the last time I was there I was 12.
I would really love to go back as an adult, and really take in the family and culture. Well, and the food.
American Italian food is far from real from the different regions of Italy.
Maybe you should go this summer.
@marlayne I would love to.
But Finance is an issue, I spend a bunch visiting my mother in CT, and I live in FL.
one day I'll save enough, and if luck would have it, we can travel there together.
Now That would be a great thing.
How do you define a "serious" world traveler?
I don't know. I guess it's someone who wants to see and experience as much a possible.
As a hiker, I love seeing and experiencing spectacular beauty in the mountains.
Hiking is my passion. It's an uplifting, transcendent experience for me. I love the exercise. You should see my legs!
@LiterateHiker we've seen your legs! ?
That was mean. How would you like to be called fat? All my life, people- especially fat women- have ridiculed me for being skinny.
"You are a goddess," the man I'm dating told me. "You have a beautiful body. I love every part of you."
Photo: Nick and me hiking above Tronson Meadows near the summit of Blewett Pass. At 18 degrees, I was bundled up with a down vest under my down jacket. Although we used micro-spikes, we needed snowshoes in the deep snow. January 15, 2019.
Between 2,400 and 3,200 mountain goats are estimated to live in Washington. Mountain goats are native to the Cascade Range, and can be found from the Canadian border on the north to the Oregon border on the south. A few mountain goats inhabit the Blue Mountains of southeastern Washington where they have probably colonized from reintroductions in Oregon. Mountain goats are not native to the Olympic Peninsula; these goats descended from introductions in the 1920s.
I used to sometimes travel for work. I was usually visit a factory however. I loved going to Asia. Unfortunately I didn't go to many fun places. When somebody else pays the bill, you don't get to sightsee much.
Keep it up...I once loved to travel until it became so difficult to fly! Now, I stay on the ground and have lost my zest for a lot of travel! Best of luck...
My wife and I do a lot of overseas travel and love it. We should be returning from a trip to southeast Asia right about now but had to cancel the trip due to a serious health/surgery issue with a family member. Last year we did Scandinavia and made it into the arctic circle for a night in the Ice Hotel in Sweden. Great trip but quite expensive.
I've been to all of the British isles except Ireland. My time at the fringe festival will most likely be limited due to the accommodation problem.
I may even switch the itinerary and go visit a friend in Italy for part of the trip.
I would love to join you but can only do so in spirit I'm afraid. I have done a lot of travel in my life but now days all of my travel budget it spent on travelling between the U.S. and Australia to visit family. I have been to England twice and it is just amazing IMO. I'm very jealous of your up and coming triip. I hear really great things about the Fringe Festival.
Sorry, I'm only into un-serious world travel.
@PalacinkyPDX I'm an especially unserious roadtripper!
Since you're visiting England, Scotland and Ireland, you may as well see Wales too - landscapes every bit as good and a unique culture and language.
Yes it would be unfair to neglect Wales ?
