Many on this site say they are democrats and they are progressives. What they really mean is they identify with democrats who are progressive but they themselves have not actively joined the party, gone to meetings ,offered comments or physically taken part in the movement. These are two completely different things. It is easy to stay at home and say I am a democrat but it is another thing to be a member of the party and put in time and labor. Please for those of you who can be a member there are many things that need to be done and all help is needed. Make some new friends, find a spouse be happy, join the party of your choice.

I think the bigger problem that a majority of voters just don't vote. While the majjority of people support democratic, even socialist solutions to problems, only a fraction of these left leaning voters vote. We need to do more to get the message out, and also, to change out the democratic leadership to those who are historical democrates, and not the Clinton democrates. But even the Clinton dems are far better than any GOPer.

Could be the problem.

Ohhhh, it's this guy again with his pathetic attempts to divide & conquer........

Merry morning to you. PS you need not read, your choice.Have a nice day.

@Marine wait, you want to censor what I choose to read? Buwahahahahaaaaaa

@AnneWimsey No Anne just giving u an option. You know i looked through the brouse categories and I did nor find any comments from you other than criticisms of them. Do you have any opinions of your own?

@Marine now, suddenly, that's a criteria for posting? I should clutter up the place with music videos, cat pix, half-baked opinions just to garner points? And, wait, I enjoy cute cat pix & music as much as the next person!....but flapping your "gums" and then telling me what I can/should read or how I should comment, or when/ how much?? Really? Do you ever hear your control-freak self? THANKYUVURRYMUCH for "giving" me options......

@AnneWimsey You are just lucky I give U something to do by yourself. Have a very nice day now.

@Marine ummm, as 5th term President of a very active social Club that has been around for over 45 years, with about 100 Members, I do have choices. But, again, thanx for your ASSumptions

@AnneWimsey Good thing your job does not require spelling. Good day to you.

This requires a kind of complex response. I'm debating lol

Well remember how ..overwhelming it felt attending my first Democratic party meetings. Took years to come up with the advice I began to give others: Don’t feel obligated to do anything but learn.. Wait until something grabs you (it may take years) - then go with it!

Aware open Atheists could not win office in my local, I felt somewhat ahead of the game - I could do all kinds of other stuff that would draw negative attention to the acts of the opposition, draw their resources, or simply remain a thorn in their side 🙂

Pick the races, candidates, or ballot measures/ initiatives you wish to promote, then do ... in whatever way feels comfortable. And again, do not be intimidated by those deeply involved, and do not allow them to ‘place’ you into some ‘volunteer position’ you don’t feel ready or motivated for.

And, work to win, but expect reality.. The lifelong friends I made, candidates I had the privilege to meet, positive response from the public and those I was able to motivate made, and continue to make it worthwhile. Last, be a realist, not a purist; politicians represent the majority of their constituents, and themselves, allow them to do both.

I’m neither and to be completely honest nothing would make happier than to see both parties collapse upon themselves.

They no longer support the ideals of the citizens that fund them. They antagonize pretty much anyone who isn’t one of them or at least label them as being stupid for “ getting in line “. Seriously not your fucking country.

Two of several things that should be made illegal is gerrymandering and closed primaries.
Gerrymandering is a direct obstruction of voters rights and closed primaries is their way of denying independent candidates from setting a root hold and disrupting their fucking profit scheme.

Well and maybe just maybe the better candidate might belong to the opposite party. Actually that is the exact reason why I wouldn’t join a party to begin with because John Warner kept his word and what was right for all of the citizens in his side of the commonwealth of Virginia.

But hey in all seriousness if you feel that belonging to a party just so it can fight the other party then fuck us all.

You’re nothing more than a slave cheering on your master who could give two flea shits about you and your needs because you’ve already signified that as long they tell you they’re fighting the evil enemy on the other side just like republicans do to their base all of you will smile and continue cheer them on.

So please don’t lecture people for wanting more than what our political parties and their corporate benefactors believe that we deserve. SMMFH!

I know your frustration it is life and one must chose the least offensive party and try to do what you feel is best. Just remember as you feel there is someone else who feels differently. Compromise make the day go smooth.

@Marine I’d like to see compromise without creating a false narrative which is something that our country can’t seem understand.
But it is what it is.

@48thRonin hang in there

are you sure that they mean that? every last one of them? "they are democrats and they are progressives" and that means they've not been active? every last one of them? how many of them have you met? i actually am a democrat and a progressive and i HAVE gotten off my ass and done those things, so how is your generalization true? please don't try to tell people what they mean when you don't know.

g

Nice one.

I mean basically it’s a primary thing right? If you can vote in the democratic primary then you are a registered Democrat regardless of whether you attend meetings or not (unless you are in a state that has open primaries)

Myah Level 6 Jan 25, 2019

depends on the state.

There is so much more than just the primary to politics. When one becomes involved you see the need for compromise.

2

How do you know they are not active? Your assumption is incorrect.

I have voted Democrat since age 18. Every presidential election year, I have volunteered at Democrat headquarters.

Registered 75 high school students to vote last September. Will do it again in April, 2019.

You are doing fine it is those who do nothing we are after.

3

A tiny bit presumptuous, maybe? 😉

I have been a member of the Democrat party since 18 year old got the vote in 1972. I started out handing out flyers, registering people to vote, and attending fund raisers and rallies.

I continue to do so but now that I am older, I can also add money to the mix to help those I feel are good representatives for the party.

So, as a member who already does my share, I will just add my two cents and say that being active is fun and it does have its rewards. It makes you feel like you are participating and not just mouthing words, although, that has its place as well...

There are lots of social aspects about being around people like yourself...there are disappointments and some horrible things as well...but I still recommend it...you can get as involved as you want....even just sending some stock letters to your own congress people....

2

If you vote Democrat, you are a Democrat. Who are you to define what being a Democrat means?

@KissedbySun You've been out in the sun too long.

I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of the communist party, or something like that.

1

Bet you would never look here to find a date!

Hey, either I’m the only one having got it … or the only one not feeling guilty.. Good post, as usual. I know life’s busy.. I’ve lived one, but if it’s too busy for those with the best of intentions to get their butts where they’re needed ...then they deserve what we’ve got..

@Varn Thanks
