Not all the time, but I am doing it. For me, butter is a must have ingredient for the bread. It just brings the dish all together and it feels way more delicious. I can't understand people who don't like it, or at least some clarified butter or ghee, how it's also called. People can confuse these 2 words, thinking like of different products, but actually it's one and the same product. You can read more about clarified butter vs ghee in the article, and see the difference.

I was called unAmerican when I lived in USA (I'm British) because I don't like cheese on burgers and I have never nor would I ever combine peanut butter with jam on bread. Sugar and fat and palm oil and carbs galore. My fav butty is banana or prawn. If I am trying to be exceptionally gentile cucumber or tomato. Now I'm hungry

@PalacinkyPDX noooo prawn butty. Prawns, mayonnaise and lettuce. 'Butty' is Lancashire for sandwich

Only if I toast it on the frying pan.

no butter but we would put a slice of cheddar cheese between the pb and strawberry jelly.

Sadly allergic to dairy for most of my life... Nope

@ponderingatheist Do you toast your bread? I love PB&J on toasted bread.

If and when I eat a PB&J sandwich, I toast up wheat bread, spread the jelly there, PB here, I'll either eat mine with slices of bananas or blueberries or with slices of mild cheddar cheese! (One or the other.)

If I add bananas or blueberries, I'll pour honey over the fruit and close the sandwich.

Argh! Now I'm craving a PB&J sandwich!

I don't typically toast my bread. I have made grilled pb&j though. It's been years but from what I remember it was pretty damn tasty.

I've never made a PB&J in my life.
I'm allergic to peanut butter.
So, no.

@PalacinkyPDX LOL You're right, of course. Anaphylaxis is always a party.

Is it nuts or just peanuts? I had cashew nut butter which was lovely. Not sweeteneed or with added fat.

@Amisja ALL of them. I've had people try to suggest that I should try this or that, for years. I have zero interest in testing to see whether I am or am not allergic to anything else.

I've never made a PB&J so can't comment but would have thought.........no, come to think of it, it doesn't make me think at all 🙂

Whats your fav butty? I put a couple of mine up above, but now I come to think of it...chip butties, must be thick crappy warbies bread, lurpak, salt vinegar and tomato sauce on the chips...nom. now I am really hungry

@Amisja Bacon sarnies mmmm ambrosia 🙂 I'm also a bit partial to cheese and pickle on thick brown nutty wholemeal bread 🙂

@ipdg77 bacon with daddies sauce? (we'll leave the American brothers and sisters to their peanut butter...sad 😉 )

@Amisja A dash of Daddies indeed. Like your work girl 🙂

@ipdg77 hahahaha...

What is a PB&J? I live in Australia so have no clue about this.

Peanut butter and jelly. As if butter makes a blind bit of difference!

@PalacinkyPDX, @ipdg77 You right it doesn't, just adds more fat to it.

@ToolGuy Is that Peanut Butter and Honey? Never had that ever but worth a try.

2

No, but have you ever just spread butter on a slice of bread and sprinkled a teeny tiny amount of sugar on top? Mmm...

It's sooo delish! You have to try it!

It is so, so delicious, actually I have not had my breakfast yet so that should be on the menu but not too much of it of my bottom shall be growing yet again.

@Jolanta You can also pour a little honey on top instead of the sugar. ?

also some cinnamon with the

Growing up that’s what we did, butter first the peanut butter on top. I haven’t done it in probably 40+ years.

No, I get upset when I see people put jelly on the dry bread side instead of over the peanut butter though!

I often butter my toast before adding peanut butter.

1

Nope. That would be strange to me.
