I often see people posting critical comments about various religious or political groups, "pushing" their beliefs on people. I am amazed that people get so upset about this. We are bombarded all day, every day with different people, groups and companies trying to convince us of something. Relax, just because people share ideas we certainly are in control whether we listen or not. Example. I was at a county fair in the fall where a man walked up to me and said, "can I tell you about Jesus?" No. Works every time, "just say no".

I live in the UK. We have a state religion. Its ok now but when I grew up Sundays were the pits. TV went off in the afternoon (I mean off air) and did not come on till religious shows at 5 pm. Everywhere was shut, cinemas, pubs, shops you name it,anywhere you could have fun was not open. This was because it was the lords day.
You say live and let live but be warned. If you let those god botherers take over then thats what you will get

Sure , you can say no if you're asked. But what I think irks many here, is that there seems to be this general assumption made by quite a few religious folks, that EVERYone else believes as they do .

Most of us go about our days just fine . However I know for me, there are times when it all gets frightfully OLD. The "bless yous". the "have a blessed days", the prayers before public non-religious events, the "I'll pray for yous", the signs on lawns, the damn fish on cars, the "Jesus loves you" BS, blah-blah-blah miracles, the tales of going to hell unless ... , those wanting to save the souls of others that are NOT interested !, hearing their god thanked for something that resulted from very human efforts.
Years of this. Sometimes it's just too fukkin much !

The fundamental difference between some one wanting to share an opinion on their favourite flavour of ice cream and a Christian wanting to tell me about Jesus is that the Ice cream salesman does not feel I, my children and grandchildren all deserve to be thrown in to a pit of burning sulphur for all eternity to suffer in eternal agony for NOT acknowledging that Tutti-frutti is better than mint chocolate chip.

The Christian bastard does think, I, my children and grandchildren DO deserve exactly that for not accepting what he says and what is more WORSHIPS the foul cunt who he thinks made that law in the first place.
Sorry but that sort of warped hateful mentality I kind of have a problem with, and chose not to simply say “no thank you” and walk away, I want to ask him just what the fucking fuck makes him or his imaginary friend believe they have the right to consider my family in that way.

THAT is why I object to religious people foisting their filth on me in public places, down the throats of my family in state schools and being given endless platforms to preach hate, bigotry and idiocy to morons who will spread this pestilent infection to more fools down the generations all to willing to take up the cudgels of hate in the name of their loving god.

I'm capable of fending for myself and I'm secure enough in my values to deal with opposing views like an adult. I'm more opposed to childhood indoctrination (especially fear-based methods that I consider to be psychological abuse, because I know first hand the trauma of being taught hellfire and eternal torture from a very young age) and teaching non-science in science class because a religious lobby got "equal time" for their views. Otherwise, I really don't care what people say for or against religion. I'm not very outspoken, but I'll have a conversation if someone religious is interested in civil discourse. When it comes to politics, I really would like to turn off the noise. I find the ongoing bickering and fruitless debate to be exhausting.

i am not averse to people expressing their beliefs/agendas. when they LEGISLATE them that's another story. also, sometimes "no" doesn't work; it does not work every time. some people really ARE pushy! i did manage to deter a couple of (nonjapanese) mormons who approached me in a kinko's in japan, though. one of them asked me if i knew the story of joseph smith. i responded, yes, i do! do you know the one about the rabbi who defied god? and i proceeded to tell him that story. i made sure it was a long a story as i could make it, with lots of embellishments, and i spoke as quickly as i could in order for him not to be able to back out. i was never approached there again. i DID have two mormons knock on my door (on the ninth floor of a condo building, yet!) and refuse to answer the door. instead of taking "no" for an answer, they started calling me names, using obscenities and all. i called their church and reported them.
