I grew up in Florida but lived in Ohio a couple years before moving to Atlanta. I had the right coats and hats and gloves AND I knew how to drive when there was a bit of snow. I could drive everyone to Piedmont Park to ride sheets of cardboard like sleds.

You must have not been in the area...when people were stranded for miles and days on I-85, -75 and 400?

@Freedompath - I'm a native Atlanta. We learned a few things when growing up...

  • when we get frozen precip enough to cover the ground, there is ALWAYS sheet ice involved. Normally we get ice storms, where everything looks like a glazed doughnut; but even if there's snow on top, that glazing is still there underneath.
  • people can drive in normal snow; no one can drive on sheet ice
  • we know that we don't have shit for winter transportation equipment
  • transplants, especially from colder climes up north, don't know these things, and assume driving here is like where they're from; this makes them overconfident, and even a little cocky. Nothing could be further from the truth concerning driving here

Therefore we stay the hell off the roads even if there's a chance of a winter storm, because
we know all of these things;
we know you don't, and won't;
and we know this crap will melt in a day or two.

So all those cars you see stranded? They're not us. ?

@Geektheist I am a native, too! 60yrs! Starting working in downtown, at 17!

@Freedompath - kewl! Was I pretty accurate with my comment? ?

@Geektheist pretty much!
