Not sure what to think about Superbowl Prayer Parties against human trafficking, domestic violence, and terrorism. The premise--that the omnipotent creator of the universe will do more to prevent those horrid acts if he hears from enough of us--is absurd of course. However, getting people to think more about those who suffer from these acts could be helpful. What do you think?

Super bowl prayer party?? Wha?! Do they watch the game or just pray while its on? Do they start praying Friday when the prostitutes and johns arrive and go through Monday when everyone gets back on the road? Do they offer a help line or go hotels looking for the traffics rescue?

The very act of praying for trafficking victim should raise awareness and perhaps inspire someone to contribute to the cause. Whether or not you call it "prayer," it's still humans focusing their intentions toward a positive result end, and since we are made of energy and are creating our own universes, it's all good. In a way we are "god" so our prayers are to ourselves, and will get results.

Pioneering physicist Sir James Jeans wrote: “The stream of knowledge is heading toward a non-mechanical reality; the universe begins to look more like a great thought than like a great machine. Mind no longer appears to be an accidental intruder into the realm of matter, we ought rather hail it as the creator and governor of the realm of matter.

Get over it, and accept the inarguable conclusion. The universe is immaterial-mental and spiritual.” – R.C. Henry, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University , “The Mental Universe” ; Nature

You're up against a brick wall. The only reason for those prayers is reaffirm their deity and their religion. It's similar prayers before sessions of Congress, allegedly remind the legislators of the seriousness of their task, but really to bolster religion. You're more patient than I am. I'd step away when they stated their incantations, and if they gave me a hard time, I'd leave. Remember, the prayers aren't to remind them about the victims of those misfortunes, it's to reaffirm their religion and their deity.

I think gawd will likely be too busy helping one team or the other win to pay any attention to domestic violence , murder , or any of the zillion other terrible things that will be happening.

The intactivists are there too, protesting circumcision. Grown men in white with red patches on their crotches.

Does god watch American football?

Superbowl prayer parties? Sounds more like the kind of event where people curry favour with god for one sporting team or another... it’d make more sense if they organised a soup kitchen or something.

Well.... their priorities are in the right place at least. But if there was actually an omnipotent creator and they actually gave dick squat about the goings on on this blue marble, they’d have already done something about these assholes long ago.

Don't have any use for either.
