So, I've met some folks from this site and that turned into at least one really good solid friendship, but why does it seem that soooooo many people who identify as atheist/agnostic always wind up being super liberal (i.e., left of Lenin) SJW types who want to inject a political agenda into everything anyone around them says or does? It doesn't help foster a fledgling relationship if one party approaches it from an adversarial stance, looking for reasons to be offended at every turn. It's exhausting mentally and emotionally to be around these people, and I find myself wishing they weren't atheists so i could divorce myself from them completely. I know people who automatically assume I'm also an SJW when the topic of religion comes up and I tell them I'm an atheist, and I wish that wasn't the case

What is SJW? I've seen that here in a couple threads, so I figure it's time to ask what it means. I would love to date someone as lefty as me, as long as they are not way bitter or adversarial towards men in general and also not militantly vegan either. That's one area of PC and being lefty that I don't subscribe too and get annoyed with the pressure from most lefty's that I should be vegan too. So I can relate with you some..

@HomeAloneSunday Ok, I get it now, that makes sense in the context of his usage here. Thanks, HAS.

Maybe because the religious right has hijacked conservatism.

"Left of Lenin"??? Communism is dead, try 2019, not 1959.....

Great post! I feel the same way. I know most women are naturally more kind, generous, caring and giving than most men. But I always thought they had more common sense also. I don't see that here. it looks like most have no idea of fiscal responsibility. Just throw money at any problem you see!
The country is broke ladies! the pension funds are broke. Social Security is broke.
The whole U.S. economy is one giant ponzy scheme!!

Patton Oswalt is a fav comedian but you dislike liberal SJWs? You must have a more stringent set of criteria for what makes a negative SJW than your average broflake, but then that doesn't explain why you find so many of them elsewhere. Does Patton get a pass for bein funny but it's not cool for anyone else to be concerned? Or is he doing it right but most everyone else is overreacting? Or you just avoid his twitter account n enjoy his comedy? Not tryina put words in your mouth or make assumptions, just curious how that works.

"why does it seem that soooooo many people who identify as atheist/agnostic always wind up being super liberal (i.e., left of Lenin) SJW types who want to inject a political agenda into everything anyone around them says or does?"

  • You may not have noticed, but the country is a little divided politically right now. A lot of people are very active - and very pissed - on topics they feel are important.
I'm guessing most at/ag are liberal because the right seem to be mainly religious folks.

"It's exhausting mentally and emotionally to be around these people, "

  • From personal experience, I agree. The solutions is to stop talking with them.

"I know people who automatically assume I'm also an SJW when the topic of religion comes up and I tell them I'm an atheist, and I wish that wasn't the case"

  • Other atheists or idiots who don't understand that atheists are not all clones of one another?

Maybe you associate with the wrong group of atheists!

I am a strong atheist and consider myself a liberal but I am not the SJW type that are out to ruin people's lives like they do.

Their opinions are formed on extreme narcissism, and nothing else.

People will always disappoint you.
Assumptions are often wrong.
Expectations are even worse.
Atheists are still people. Why are you expecting more from them?

I would no more have a Republican/Conservative friend than I would a Nazi as a friend. I consider those of that persuasion to foster policies and practices that not only will make my life less secure, but also are a physical threat to my survival.

Hear, Hear and Amen brother.

Sounds like you're insane, but carry on

@SweetHarp Evidently you have a more benign (and in my opinion, nieve) view of the right than I have. I see them as a threat of the magnitude of the fascists in Italy, Spain, and Germany pre-WWII. They all started out without their nefarious nature being as evident as it was later on.

@SweetHarp More extreme than lumping all the Nazi's, Spain and Italy's fascists under the same assumption?
