I recently had a conversation with a few other truck drivers and one of them started harping about how he couldn’t stand gays and all of that shit.

And I waited until he paused and asked a very simple question. “ Dude so just how bad was the fucking break up? “

And of course he flipped his shit with threats and calling me a queer and anything else he could think of and once again I calmly replied with my usual banter.

“ Naw dude I’m too damn ugly for any respectable gay man to wanna be with but you apparently feel different about yourself.

Which is why due the amount of anger that you were showing I could only take it as you feeling jaded and heart broken.

And I told him that it was ok it’s better to have loved and lost. After that I checked my truck for anything wrong and hauled ass.? I’m also out of truck stop that I can use for awhile.?

So like the pizza place in Indiana, these women have made an issue about something that hasn't happened---and probably wouldn't have as I would hope any gay couple who checked them out would see they don't deserve the business. The Jesus references in their website bios would suffice.

In filing the complaint and getting press for it, they've already accomplished their goal. They've gotten the word out that they won't serve gay clients. Just as well! As they've surely alienated a lot of other potential clients who won't want to do business with bigots. A year from now, I hope they look back at their lowest revenue year ever.

hell, a year from now, I hope to read they went out of business.

I believe in the free association of individuals and the rights of the business owner to conduct business as they see fit.

It's up to consumers to "vote" on the success/failure of any business with their consumer dollars.

The last thing we need is just more legislation and outrage distracting from larger social issues.

If you don't like how a business conducts business, don't go there and don't give them your money.

So you think a diner should be able to exclude blacks from sitting at the counter? What about my tax dollars supporting the road that runs in front of their diner?

@thinktwice ...with social media and protests, how long do you think such a place would last in business? Justice these days can be swift... No one is going to want their picture taken going in there....or eating there....right?

@SkotlandSkye Oh, you mean like the MasterPiece Cake shop that "closed"? sure...

@thinktwice that's a religious issue....not a race or LGBT issue. There are people on both sides of the religious issue - but only asshats are on the wrong side of the race issues these days or the LGBT issues. Just ask the Governor of Virginia.

Honestly, I'd rather KNOW how people believe and feel...and a place like what you describe would help identify people with whom I wouldn't want to associate.

@SkotlandSkye It is a sexual preference issue and that is a protected class....why bother to have laws to protect classes if we are not going to support them with as much fervor and resistance as we can? Substitute gays sitting at the counter...it is the same issue...discrimination of a protected class...I agree, I want to know as well, but we wouldn't know at all if they obeyed the laws and kept it a business to make money from everyone class, race, sex, etc.

@thinktwice sorry...having three conversations....you're right, this is the sexual preference discussion. I LIKE having the haters identified. I LIKE knowing where the Westboro Baptist Church stands, for example. I LIKE letting people show their true colours. We shouldn't let them HIDE. We should encourage them to show us the truth! Don't you like knowing that that ChickFilA dead chicken restaurant is anti-LGBT? and Hobby Lobby? It helps you make informed decisions as to where to spend money, right?

@SkotlandSkye exactly...and I do not spend my money there...yet they are still in business...

@thinktwice and...when your friends go there...you educate them. Then, if they still go there...you know where your friends stand on issues...and you can decide if you still want them as friends. I like things to be "known" instead of hidden. But, maybe that's me.

@SkotlandSkye I totally understand what you are saying, but if boycotting does not solve the issue, the laws should..the laws are being shut down by more conservative judges and will continue to happen if we don't speak out...

@thinktwice and then they will just go into their back room meetings and take their profits from their businesses -- profits from US, the consumers -- and use it to promote their beliefs and hate.

The power of free speech and capitalism allows them to self-identify so we don't give them our money. Take that away from them....and they will get our money because we won't know better.

You can't legislate away hatred and bigotry....

@SkotlandSkye true...you can't...but you can allow those being discriminated against to sit at the counter with you...everyone should have the same access to products and services...if we allow businesses to tout their bigotry and hatred and turn away people, we are depriving people of equal access...I don't see that as serving anyone any better...as long as there are alternatives that is fine...but if it is the only diner in town, that is another story...BTW...I am not disagreeing with the premise of your stance...I think we both agree on the basics, just not the methods to alleviate

@Veteran229 Don't use the guns argument...they are not a protected class...just as shirts and shoes are not a protected class...all races and religions and sexual preferences abide by the same rules when a business denies access to no guns...don't conflate the two

@Veteran229 It is the right to bear arms...but what is the law that says the business has to let you in? They are not stopping you from your right based on color, creed, etc. The Civil Rights Act is the one I am using that businesses have to abide by...

@Veteran229 as long as the business policy is not illegal or discriminatory they can set their own policies...it is not illegal to keep guns out...it is illegal to keep a person out...things and people...things have no rights...

And people wonder why I've become an anti-theist?
I'm so tired of anyone using their religious beliefs to discriminate against
ANYONE else.

I would not step foot in their establishment!
