I woke this morning to a snowstorm. At least that's what they called it in sunny Albuquerque.
By the time the snow stopped falling at noon, and I went hiking, it was melting, despite below freezing temps.
I had to wait for it to stop snowing, since I don't have any winter clothes since leaving Thailand..not even a hat!
Freezing my rump off on that hike inspired me to get on Amazon and order a coat, boots, ski mask, gloves, etc., even though winter is already ending.
I saw mule deer, javelina (collared peccary), and Merriam's kangaroo rat tracks in the desert (SO cute!), but the wind was strong and I was only wearing a sweatshirt and windbreaker, so I soon headed back.
There was a huge black-tailed jackrabbit, but I didn't see any other wildlife.

we left mesa on dec 31 after 3 months & the day after we arrived home on van isle it got cold & started snowing. the worst feb i've experienced on van isle since 1975. the morn after we got back we noticed our daffodils just peaking thru the surface; been buried in at least a foot of snow since. the last few days we've been a little above freezing but we're way below normal temps.
How are you coping with life after being in Thailand for so long?
Well, after Sydney, Albuquerque is my favorite city to live in.
@birdingnut After having lived in Sydney for a long time but visited Melbourne on several occasions, I do prefer Melbourne. It has a lovely European vibe about it.
@Jolanta I thought Melbourne too parochial, but I was just visiting briefly.
@birdingnut My daughter lives there so I go there quite often and just love the place. If I had to live in a large major city in Australia, Melbourne would be my choice.
@Jolanta They do have some great birds there, but in Sydney I can ride the ferries and eat in Chinatown for cheap, and there are even more birds-lorikeets, cockatoos, etc. to photograph.
@birdingnut Have you ever been to Queensland? Once when I was there in the country there was this huge flock, blue and green. It was a flock of budgies, thousands of them. Amazing site it was. Never seen anything like it.
@Jolanta No, but I saw flocks like that in the outback while traveling with the mail truck to my camel trek rendezvous near Coober Pedy.
@birdingnut Gorgeous isn't it.
