There is no such thing as 'normal'. It is a societal illusion that people buy into in order to convince themselves that they somehow fit in. But 'normal' is a lie and we all can fit in. What do you think?

The last thing I'm ever gonna be is "normal". And I have no desire to be such.

Don't know that we can all fit in. Those who keep others' body parts in their freezers are just not a good fit for our society.

Somebody has to work in the morgue.

@MarqG Ah but the deeper question is then "Who owns the freezers?" 🙂

What people say is "normal" is just "average".

'Average' depends on what questions you ask. Ask the right questions and you will blow 'average' out of the water.

@Wrytyr I meant average as the middle of the bell curve, so in answer to any question, what comes up as "average" most people tend to consider "normal". Semantics I know, I have just never been able to accept the concept of "normal".

Humans as animals evolved as "herd" animals and formed groups for greater safety. So, feeling like one belongs often also makes people feel more safe and secure.

Many people who are religious have doubts, won't leave their religion, because they feel more safe and secure to be a part of a group.

People feel comfortable with what they know. Those who don't fit into what is considered to be "normal" for their group makes them feel like their safety is threatened. Thsi is animal instinct over ruling cognitive thinking.

Virtually every advance or step in progress for human kind and society hs bee because someone dared to vary from the norm.

I don't care about normal at all...what I do care about is respectful behavior! I am not like others and they are not like me! But, I do hope with my whole heart that I regard them with the dignity that everyone deserves! If I should be mistreated, I will address that directly!!

Agree. It's about the constraints society arbitrarily decides are "acceptable", usually based around stupid laws devised by people with an agenda. It's all about "control"

Id hate to define normal but I could define pretend normal or sheeple. being yourself and being looked at like the fucking weirdo is so hypocritical from the majority of seemingly clone families scared that they don't fit in ie fashion just blows me away. you think the diversity of beliefs and fake shit going on in this majority living a lie is mind-blowing or in fact, I am a complete nutter.

Nature has no definition for normal.

I don't believe in "normal".

"Normal" is a thin veil we wear to live with civility in society. I've peeked behind that veil (...or have been shown) enough times to know how "normal" is not normal. I've even been surprised and freaked out a few times.

It's not that it contradicts notions of compatibility or conformance; those are relational concepts and we all - for the most part - employ them judiciously. It's with age & experience that we realize that who we are when we're alone with no one watching is who we really are; not some altruistic concept.

Been saying this for years....decades, maybe.
