What Would YOU Do?

This made me cry and it made me angry, but most of all; this made me proud of all the humanity still left in this world.

When discrimination is obvious like this, I will not stay quiet. I will deflect the attention towards myself in order to protect another human being from hatred. Both my maternal (protect) and warrior (defend) instincts kick in.

I am still crying after this video.

I beg each of you, "ALWAYS do what's right and defend the honour and dignity of another human being who might find themselves a victim of discrimination. Your silence in a situation like this makes you a conspirator of ignorance." -Truly, Pepper

Lovely to see, but what about all those other incidences when this happens that I have seen in the media and nobody says anything to the racist? Always stand up for those who are bullied or cannot speak for themselves.

I'm a bit puzzled. Surely it was obvious that this was staged ?

It's a TV show.

All the people are actors except the people reacting to the situation.

"What Would You Do?"

Most people do defend the person being bullied.

@BufftonBeotch I saw a microphone boom being waved about but I see now that it was after the customer had been told it was staged.

Me cry too. :/ But, I am an easy target for tears these days.

I wish I could say I would stand up and speak but I come from a background of not making waves (not in a public situation like that). Put another way: I know that being silent is wrong, it's a matter of building the habits of speaking out that is important.

For the record, I am, somewhat, multilingual (meaning I have some German and Spanish, a few words of Japanese, and understand French... a wee bit). I teach. I wax German, or Spanish, on occasion in class and stand foresquare against students who espouse "English first" or "English only" as I have experienced what it means to think about things in different languages and it's eye opening. So, in that way I can, and do, model having an open mind. It's not much, but it's what I do in the here and now, intending to grow to more.

Wow! I cried too girl! You rock for this post! We need more considerate people like you! * BTW why are you sleepless? I've got insomnia too.

@QueenofThrones My username is from one of my favourite romantic comedy movies from way back: Sleepless In Seattle. Except, sadly, I'm not in Seattle.

I'm all the way in Texas. ????

@SleeplessInTexas I feel ya! Was born in Tacoma and now all the way in Dallas ?

@SleeplessInTexas. ? I going to change my username to When Harry Met Sally in Texas and Moved to Seattle.

When I was in the first company I worked for in Ireland, if a customer was disrespectful or abusive, I could refuse to serve him /her. After the handover, I wasn't allowed to do that any more. When you over protect whoever it is, abuse becomes more frequent. The problem is finding a point of balance between things.

makes me cry too @SleeplessInTexas. it's good to see people stand up to that kind of ignorance.

I'm trying to wean myself off Faceberg. Can you summarize the video, or find it on Youtube and share it from there?

This was an obvious staged event....yes, that was quite easy to spot from the start, however it is an interesting excercise it see how bystanders would react to this were it real. I am confused that it seems to be being circulated on Facebook by a Swedish group..., but I guess that they are finding an increase in this sort of behaviour due to an increase in immigration there. It is good to remind us that this scenario may actually be happening for real in a restaurant, anywhere, and asking us how we think we would react, should we happen to witness such outright racism.

@Marionville That's what the video is about. The scenerios are educational and should be shown in schools to help teach our children about humanity.

@SleeplessInTexas Good...need to be in every school, everywhere.

OK, so I'm confused. I understand that white trash exists, but what is the point of the video?

godef Level 7 Feb 23, 2019

@SleeplessInTexas My complaint is that, okay they are trying to expose white trash, but doing it at the expense and embarrassment of the poor waiter who is trying to make an honest living? I hope he was informed, otherwise I question that the "examiners" aren't doing this for their own attention.

@godef I can tell that you've never seen the show.

[google.com]

@godef to encourage the racists to stay home and eat. to illustrate the ignorance of racism in the context of daily life and decent folks.

@MissKathleen Geez! Okay, I get it.
