I don't think it's appropriate. Whats makes you think you can just give a total stranger your opinion on their looks? I find that women are too often judged based on their appearance (men also, but I think to a lesser degree). I think there are situations where it's more acceptable like in a club or other such social place. But a nun at the airport? I don't see how you can think that she would like for a stranger to tell her how she looks... I mean, it's a small thing and you maybe had good intentions but I see it as more of an offensive move then a friendly one. If you really are not acting out of attractiveness and hope to seduce, then you would also tell a priest he is very handsome?
