trump targeted the Evangelicals because they are gulible. The racists because he can appeal to them and no other candidate would. He recognized the there were enough lowlife to win an election.

How? His base is largely faith (belief without evidence and often in defense of evidence) based delusions. For the faithful, facts, based on reality, usually don't matter.
