Quick question for the room: Does it actually say anywhere in the proposals made by politicians like AOC or Bernie Sanders that "those who don't want to work will get free money"?

It's one of those arguments that people on the web likes to make but when I ask for supporting evidence of this claim, they all go silent.
To me this sounds like a delusion imposed on dimwits by propaganda media, but I don't obsess over every Left politician, so I don't know for sure.

Does anyone here know of a "free money" policy for lazy people?

It’s meant to imply those having acquired extreme wealth might be expected to share their good fortune with those continuing to provide it. But with propaganda skewed to the extreme, the ‘spin’ becomes giving money away. Nope, just a social responsibility this nation’s moved too far from.

Never underestimate the ignorance of a great number of Americans. It has been and always will be this way. Facts and proof mean little to the perpetually stupid.

It's interesting that people who get hot and bothered by food stamps and welfare are seldom offended by the trillions that disappear into the Pentagon never to be accounted for. Nor does the corporate welfare seem to phase them. I assume it's because they actually see the people paying with food stamps where the parasites at the top are out of sight and hence out of mind. And of course the mouth-pieces for those parasites make sure that stories like the surfer dude who was receiving food stamps while pursuing his career of being a good-timing bum gets lots and lots of air time - that story was a regular on Faux News for quite a while.

indeed. i know people who just about pee themselves if they're standing behind someone using an ebt card (why are they snooping closely enough to see how someone is paying?) and that person isn't vegan or something, but don't even blink at amazon's not paying ANY taxes, or our taxes going to build an imaginary wall, or buy a dining table for a cabinet member (or is that a cabinet for a dining member?) out of sight, out of mind, or out of their mindless minds.

If we had smarter, more capable leaders we’d balance the budget, pay off the national debt, and amass a huge investment fund managed for the citizens. Done right all taxes could be eliminated along with every social program. There’d be a lifelong subsistence income for every person born.

Be as lazy as you want—no big deal. There’s not going to be enough work to keep people busy in the future—nor should there be. Work is a liability.

Under this new system people could still become wealthy if they wanted to. The good part is that they could relax, enjoy friends and family, participate in sports and hobbies, or commit themselves to scholarship.

There has been talk about an assured minimum income which perhaps is what people heard about.

If I remember Hillary mentioned the concept a time or two. The idea that it is free money for lazy people sounds entirely a rightest propaganda tool without nuance. With the advent of AI there will be a good percentage of the population that will be unemployable at least until retraining takes place. The idea is to allow those people to live with a minimal but adequate income.

There’s nothing anywhere nor will there be.
The ignorance of the propagandist who wish to obstruct anything that looks, smells or sounds like socialism are unbelievable but sadly do exist.

I actually got into it with a coworker at the beginning of the school year because he was raving about his kids school had its budget increased so that 25 more kids could have a free lunches.

His issue was that he and his wife work and make too much money for his kid to get a free lunch and that these other parents should do so as well.
That it’s just some socialist bullshit that gives his tax dollars away to people who don’t want to work.

I asked him does everyone have a combined income of $100k he and his wife do? Especially if they work at Walmart or a fast food restaurant?
He replied that most likely no.

Ok so what if they can’t afford 3 meals a day, housing, clothing, medical, transportation and what if it’s a single parent?
Once again he didn’t think so.

I then asked him why wasn’t his kid in a private school?
He replied that there wasn’t any need because him and his wife had gone to the same school.

At this time I could only ask why was he wasting my tax dollars with such a socialist program like free school?
His face was especially how I expected to look. ?
He didn’t talk with me much after that. ?

That was a great way to at least give him an alternative reality. I am biased as i am a social worker, who outreaches elderly and disabled. Years before following my dream to do what moved me, I worked for the phone company 17 years and made over double what I do now 22 years later. I have been told my job is helping rip tax payers off. I used to try to enlighten them, but now I just tell them I hope to not live in a 3rd world country where poor, sick, elderly, or others disenfranchised aren't starving on the streets. Or I say nothing, when it will add no value to anyone or make a difference.

No there is not...nor has there been, ‘free money for lazy people!’ That is a way to spend that ‘welfare’ idea, so that ‘needy people,’ will feel guilty for taking it! My son who worked at landscaping until his hip was so degenerated that he could hardly walk and he refused to apply for food stamps which created a financial burden for me instead! How could I allow my son to go hungry, even though I was strapped financially! But, he refused to accept assistance because of shame (he was a Fox News watcher).

@Mortal tunnel vision is just not something we should ever adopt! I would suffer for the common good, but this is pious sacrifice for no good!

@motrubl4u I was on disability and unable to barely walk for almost 15 years and after a back operation in ‘17, I feel better than I felt at 60! I have no pain, take no meds and can hike steep grades that I did in my 50s, but this is not true for others that I am coming across! In fact, I have yet to find a person who has had a back operation that has come out on the upside as I have, at any age! I am sure they are there, I have not run across them! And other people are reporting to me, that their friends are worse off!

I know what you mean. Part of my job is to convince poor people to apply for foodtamps or call if they need oil instead of not having enough for food. Many paid into the system for many years and often they worked where companies went bankrupt so they lost pensions. People make assumptions and seem to thrive on judging others.
