Just a suggestion to you "posty linky" people. Please post some information about the link you are posting. Many people are uncomfortable with blind links.

Also, if you're post something that suggest a POV or an opinion piece, please add yours in your own words. Do you support it, do you not... and why would be nice too.

If you want a conversation that's awesome... then start the convo with your ideas or opinions.

Thanks!

Posts that are just links are referred to as "drive-by" posts on some of my frequently visited web sites and they are forbidden as such. On those sites you are expected to give at least an abstract of that link or it is removed by the site's administrator. As for myself, I usually do not open the links inasmuch as most I have found to be a waste of time...what they might find engaging, I do not. I have posted about this issue here before.

Thank you and let's hope it is followed.

@mzbehavin How can people learn if they don't express themselves and have an open mind. I have gained a lot even when I am mistaken in my comments.

Well said!

I agree, I certainly wouldn't want to be connected to a porn site which would cause me to be late for work... Again. ?

amen to that, and i have said as much (and you never know whether such a suggestion will be met with "what a good idea!" or "screw you," right? -- mine was received kindly and the poster edited the post accordingly). i don't appreciate blind links either.

i also sometimes decline to click through links that have headlines that make no sense, and yes, i like to read articles before commenting on them, but i don't find it necessary to do so if it's the headline upon which i wish to comment and not the article. if the headline is misleading or dumb but the article is good, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if the poster mentioned that; i might even read the article in that case!

Yes and put your remarks at the top, don't comment on your own post please, is one that we get often. And I would add, perhaps not a good idea to give likes to people who do.

2

i agree but its all personal choice.

it's personal choice but it leads to other people making the personal choice not to click the link, so what good did that personal choice do, then?

@genessa can't please everybody all the time

@Janiesuper no, but if one wants people to look at the link one is posting, it's a good idea not to make it seem suspicious and instead to make it seem attractive. it's not a matter of pleasing everyone. it's a matter of being considerate, and a bit of self-interest too, since what's the point of posting a link that no one wants to click?

I agree with the first part. The rest comes down to personal choice. But I understand what you're saying. More "meat" makes it easier to discuss and there's less chance of misunderstanding what someone is trying to say.

You're entitled to your opinion and I disagree. With the second half. I often post questions without my POV because that's what I like to do. So pffft I guess.

@mzbehavin reads more like an edict than suggestion.

Do what you like of course, but I tend to skip random-looking links. And if I do click on it I often post something to let other people know. I consider it a courtesy, but you do you.

@mzbehavin I thought you were being polite. I don't have time to run through every link so have a short sentence or two saying what it's about is very helpful.

Yes, to each their own and it's a personal choice....however you'll probably get more people actually clicking on the link if you say what it's about so those that are actually interested in the topic will take a look. Seems pretty straight forward to me but apparently it's asking for too much.

@mzbehavin are they regular or pernicious?
