I had the opportunity tis morning to meet with a wonderful person who does have some intellectual disabilities. They are going through some very difficult life adjustments. This person shared with me that they had a very "scary" dream last night which was reflected the changes they were going through. I attempted to explain dreams but was told they did not understand. Does anybody have any thoughts how you explain dreams to someone with limited intellectual abilities?

Your mind never really shuts down and is aware of many things while you sleep. Things on your mind at bedtime may manifest as a dream and even things you are concerned with for the next following day. Dreams may be full of uncertainty and lots of unfinished business. They are not real in a literal sense.

I think I've always read in learned journals that dreams don't predict anything but tend to be composed of what you're thinking about in a loose configuration that sometimes helps you understand something or can provide an insite.

thanks ,heard much the same in documentary.
