I get really frustrated hearing this:
“There are good and bad people in every religion.”
So why not do away with religion and just have good and bad people.
This kills two birds with one stone.
ONE: We figure out how to deal with the bad people, and
TWO: We take superstition out of the mix so they've got nothing to cling to in defense of their reprehensible deeds.
why not just let the religious people do away with each other?
They've been doing it for years, but we keep getting caught in the crossfire.
A believe cannot reason that way. To them god is a given and if you do not believe in him you must be angry at him. This is why we are "angry atheists." Also, believers have a book that says everybody believes in god. This is why they say there are no atheists in foxholes. If I'm in a foxhole gods are the last thing I'm thinking about.
To illustrate how believers think I can tell you this story from my believing days. When I heard that Madalyn Murray O'Hair was murdered I assumed god did it or allowed it because she did not believe in him. Ignorant, yes, but this is the spell that believers are under.
I remember the glee among my Evangelical friends when she disappeared. They were absolutely giddy.
I remember one time at a part, while I was still a Christian, a guy came up to me and introduced himself as a prophet. I was seriously not impressed, and the guy was an asshole. After a couple of minutes, he informed me that Gold told him that I didn't like him because he reminded me of my father. I told him, "My dad's a dick, there's no question about that, but you're a completely different dick."
