We did that when I was about 6. It was cool watching them come out of the cocoon all shriveled up and then stretch out.
Lucky you
I do feel lucky that they stop by my yard to lay their eggs and to be able to watch them emerge. ?
This made me smile. A nice little pause in the monotony.
Yes, watching them be born keeps my mind in a better place.
@Redheadedgammy "birth" is a misleading brief word applied to all species life continuity.....as a birth coach I am witness to THE METAMORPHIC changes I saw in both my daughters and each of their moms... the most remarkable was the DNA of skin changing from beige to purple tiny blotches from neck and shoulders to entire face....this began at the "moment of birth" to several hours later abating during colostrum lactation and my girls 1st meals
I planted Joe Pye weed at the country place, it's butterflies major habitat, it spread like wildfire. Which was very good. But I had to leave it. Which was very bad.
I've had to give away and leave a lot of my plants through the years. I'm working on a butterfly and bee garden now. ? I need to get the Joe Pye weed next.?
@Redheadedgammy don't forget milkweed pods rich for Monarchs to "drink" from
Bless you for cherishing these lovely species because you are preserving real heaven on earth biodiversity
Couldn't agree more!
How delightful! Life is good, even with its struggles!
I was thinking the same thing. It was nice to see this today. ?
That’s so beautiful
Congratulations ? I'm hoping for at least 2 more from our garden this year ?
There are 10 more cocoons to go and my milk weed are covered with cattapillers.
@Redheadedgammy , I've never seen that type of milkweed. What's it called? Doesn't grow here.
@freeofgod I believe this one is Tropical milkweed. It's not native to Texas but grows good here. My three in the back are stripped bare of leaves so I had to take a few of the caterpillars to the front two bushes.
It's good to see that they are not completely extinct yet.
I planted 5 milk weed in the yard. Two in front and three in back. The 3 in back got so eaten up I had to transfer some caterpillars to the front plants.
@Redheadedgammy you are a true saint of real life while the polluter xians vote for more pollution murdering tiny species giving cancer to children and elderly
