Very funny!

On the Plenty of Fish dating forum, a bottom-feeder posted two obscene appeals to me. It took me awhile to figure out what his symbols meant. Appalling.

I could talk about sexual objectification of women, but his post illustrates my point.

Literate Hiker: What do I have to do to get your attention?

I need you.

What do I have to do to get your attention?

Just thinking of your superior intelligent self with your liberal slender alabaster thighs wrapped around me made me blow my hot load all over this pic of your profile I printed off.

I want to get in, and out, and in and out of you after reading your post here.

How romantic. Lol.

@Dandewine

Perfect. Love your sense of humor!

Another jerk on POF called me a hypocrite for refusing to drive 75 miles to have sex with him in a motel that night. He said my "Carpe Diem" headline was hypocritical. That stung.

Immediately I changed my headline. I quit POF in 2015. Plenty of Flakes, indeed.

@LiterateHiker Selfish people will reinterpret your headline or anything else you express, to be all about them and their instant gratification.

When I was last single, I browsed POF for entertainment, but never made any actual attempt to use it. It just left me in slack-jawed amazement at the preponderance of un self-aware, un-aware, and generally mindless people whose whole concept of relating to the opposite sex consists of animalistic rutting, and being bad at it to boot.

After awhile it started making me excessively pessimistic, so I quit going there.

Not that the alternatives were much better.

I met my 2nd wife on a date-by-mail service (pre-Internet) and got nothing but quality responses there. I suppose that it selected for people who were purposeful and VERY patient as it took weeks to get someone's phone #. You waited for the weekly newsletter to be published and to come in the mail; you waited for your inquiry to reach the service and then be processed and re-mailed to the person of interest; you waited for them to reply and for the reply to be forwarded to you. There was no digital assist other than people with email (usually ao-hell in those days) might want to use that medium before offering up a phone #.

I met my present wife on an online writer's forum; there was not so much as a dating sub-forum there.

In my experience the best results for anything important comes from the counter-intuitive practice of not caring too much or trying too hard on the one hand, but being purposeful and patient on the other.

But can he cook? (I mean without a can of sterno.)
