Just spent a few minutes perusing the "members near me" only to notice that quite a few of them have not been on the site in over a year. All listed themselves as open to dating. I'm wondering if they were active on here for a while but gave up, or if they found someone and just forgot they still have a dating profile on Agnostics.com.

Has anyone else noticed this? Are there a lot of inactive members who haven't been on in more than a year? If so, do you think it would be a good idea for the site to automatically deactivate profiles that have had no sign-ons in more than, say, 90 consecutive days? One could always reactivate when they sign back on, and it would make it easier for active members who browse the "nearby" profiles looking for a potentially suitable connection.

I joined this site because i know one marriage and a two "happy couples" who met here, but it seems like the forums and discussions are the only way to find people. It's not a dating site in any tradition sense.

Deactivating older profiles is a good idea..

I am definitely feeling less enthusiastic about the chances of meeting someone via this site than I was when i first joined.

I met three people in very rapid succession shortly after joining last summer. All ended up leading nowhere, but for different reasons. Since then, there has been nothing - especially within 50 miles of me. Believe me, I have looked.

@Piratefish I come to Fort Wayne often. My family lives in and around that area. If you want to get coffee sometime, let me know. Maybe there's no match there, but it could still be a pleasant conversation.

@pasha-one-nine

I messaged you! I would love to have coffee. And I also make it up to Chicago a couple f times a year - more if I can help it. I could even meet you on your home turf - when the weather gets warmer and sunnier! 🙂

It's common for people to check out a site and never come back, or have a surge of interest and then lose it. Also, as you suggest, to get their objectives met in some other way and don't bother to close their account.*

  • Although on most sites it's hard to figure out how to close your account, to the point that most people don't bother trying

You have some very good points that I have not yet considered.

Most sites require you to sign up in order to see what they have. They probably signed up, didn't like what they saw and never came back.

I've seen on other sites people who haven't been there in over three years.

you can filter by level

True, although that's not an actual indicator of recent activity. You could have a level 9 leave and never come back; it's just rather less likely. But I suspect it has already happened.

After a year, I do believe they should be dropped.

I definitely think an "active" distinction would be helpful for searching. I'm not even on here for dating and it's cumbersome to sift through the people who haven't been on in ages.
